Partial rules:

The rest of the rules are in the respective channel. They are visible without the need for approval.

When you first join the server, you will be in the Welcome Room. Before you are allowed to talk in the other channels, you will need to say something in #welcome-room that proves you're not a spam bot - note that stating "I am not a bot" will not satisfy this requirement. It doesn't have to be a long introduction (one sentence is fine) but it has to be more than "hello". Please be aware that this process is completely manual, and depends on there being a moderator present and active. If you join during off peak hours, it might be a while before you can get access, and we ask please, that you be patient with us, we will get to you as soon as we can, you are not being ignored.

We ask that you take the welcome room process seriously; this is your chance to make a first impression. If it's a bad one, it could lead not only to denial for access to the rest of the server, but actual removal.

Forum ban appeals are permitted in #welcome-room, but make sure you have actually changed for the better. Administrators reserve the right to deny your appeal and leave you banned.

Note: If you need assistance getting past a login lockout (where you cannot login even if you enter a correct password on your account), you may contact us via the #contact-moderators channel whether you have been approved or not. Be ready to answer many questions to prove you are who you say you are.

Can we have official word on assurance that it's official? We've already had one failed "offical" discord and I refuse to join unless it's officially official.

The fact I'm a moderator on it should be official enough. And hang on while I sticky this.

It's too bad the Discord client did everything possible to give me a bad experience, up to and including crashing my sound device. Web client's a no-go either.

Updated rules. Newcomers now enter a lobby where only they, admins and mods can write. When you have been approved, access to the channels will be given.

Just reminding people that this is most definitely an extra official discord.

And I do not want to see ANY arguments about who's discord server is better. I don't care which side says it - there will be 24-hour bans for it the moment it begins.

I'm really annoyed by the fact that I have to be approved before I can talk. Why do I have to get approved? Is that really necessary? Why was that rule added?
So everyone else except forum.zdoom.org nerds are not legit users? What about people who want to learn more about ZDoom and are not registered here? 100% possible.

Because otherwise the server will turn into 4chan faster than you can say 'peanuts'. We've already had users try to spread dank memes and shit and there aren't admins/mods around 24/7. With so many people on there, there must be some kind of countermeasure against idiots who have nothing better to do.

And as for people outside ZDoom, well, if anyone can vouch for them or they turn out to be legit users, they're more than welcome. This is ZDoom Discord server not Internet Discord server. All are welcome, but it's beyond the scope of the server to accept just anyone right off the bat.

Updated with info about ban appeals. Think twice before trying to redeem yourselves. You have only one chance, so make sure it's worth our while and the community's as a whole.
