The City of the Damned III - Conclusion

Description
Finally the circle closes. After working on Stronghold and still leading HPack it was about time for me to continue with The City of The Damned III. My teammates from TSoZD will now rip me apart if they see this, but sorry guys, this is already in development even long before Stronghold and right now I seem to have the right mood to continue working on this - especially mapping - since I have already gathered all the kinds of resources that I needed. So what are you going to get here? Since "Apocalypse" I already had the idea of creating something that is a mixture of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Doom, something that combines elements from both universes into one, puzzles, tense atmosphere but also action-packed battles. I partially achieved with TCotD2 what I had dreamed of but it just wasn't perfectly what I had in mind. This will change now with the third and last installment of "The City of the Damned" which already has the meaningful subtitle "Conclusion". Expect an atmosphere that hasn't been seen in a Doom modification ever before, that's what I promise you.

Features
  • 3D Models for monsters and decoration
  • High-Res textures
  • True Color effects, light and fog
  • New Combat system (partially resembles the one from RE)
  • ...and even more to come
What I need help with?
There's quite a list of things that I need help with, I will post most of these here though and let you guys know about it. So, here are a few things that I can think of at the moment... What do you think?
As this is still in early mapping stages, I really would like to know what kind of ideas you have. What did you like about TCotD2 and what was terrible? Is there anything you want to have in the 3rd part of this series? Any ideas or anything on your wishlist? I want this last part to be the best one now, so any feedback is pretty much welcome. Other than that, keep your eyes open for even more progress information ;)

Looking nice. :)

My only advice to you for this one would be to NOT have a crudely recolored cyberdemon as the final boss, no matter how shiny you can make him look with HDR-like effects. :P

I already thought about you while working on that. Right now I am using high-res rips but I am sure models would like nicer. Do you have a completely finished weapon that I could take a look at?

AMEN.

As far as enemy models, you'd have to have great ones, otherwise I'd prefer sprited beasts rather than make the wad look like a Quake knock-off or something.

And I'm sorry, but Doom looked better than Quake, in my opinion.

I got my hands on a pretty good source, so I think that should work out quite well. ;)

Hell Yes! :D

I loved the open world atmosphere of Cotd2, and having it be in a skyscraper city...well, I can only imagine what you have in store.

Needs to be more visible and the weapons need to not suck. Something is terribly wrong when you can do more damage with a thrown pitchfork than with a .44 Magnum!

Nice DeLorean! :thumb:

As for suggestions, I would say try to make the puzzles a bit more logical. You see... [INCOMING TCOTD2 SPOILER ALERT!]

(BTW I live walking distance from where the DeLorean factory used to be ;) )

Screenshots look really good. Mind you, with your fourth screenshot in mind, I'd just like to say that, although I've seen high-tension power lines, power lines under such tension as you've got here would surely snap. :)

i second the not using a recolored cyberdemon as the final boss.

making puzzles with puzzle items more logical would benefit greatly, using RE as a model you could have the interesting area's give a message of what it is used for and the like, also interesting looking spots should get a message attached to them too like in RE, even if ultimately useless, would make the player more aware that they need to look at anything and everything.

and for fucks sake man, make the pistol do more damage to weak enemies than it did in TCotD2.

I don't know what level of connection this will have to the previous installments, but if you want to include the cultists that were in the last one, I just so happen to have a 3D modeled version lying around here somewhere. Believe it came with higher quality sounds as well. Let me know if you're at all interested!
