Knee-Deep in KDiZD: Z1M3 screenshot-whoring brigade (12/14)

Post by esselfortium »

The experience of playing through Knee-Deep in ZDoom is one that many Doomers will never forget, but there is one lingering question: What could KDiZD have become if it were not restrained by the limitations of the ZDoom engine?

Knee-Deep in KDiZD is an interpretation of the ZDoom.org community's groundbreaking production, Knee-Deep in ZDoom. Our team intends to enhance the original episode by utilizing the power of id Software's Vanilla Doom2.exe 1.9; modifying designs, completely reworking gameplay, building new areas, and incorporating features that have never been seen before in vanilla Doom.

Features include:
- 9 totally revamped great-looking, fun-to-play reinterpretations of the original KDiZD maps
- Many of your favorite KDiZD monsters, brought to life in DeHackEd
- 6 unique keycards
- 1 new weapon, the rifle
- 3D angles for items and other objects
- Ambient sounds
- Bullet casing effects for hitscan weapons
- Advanced lighting effects
- Sloped surfaces
- Big Dumb Lensflare (BDL) Technology
- Smooth warping liquids
- DETAIL! DETAIL! DETAIL!!!1

Our mapping team currently includes Esselfortium, Nuxius, Brinks, Tun, Tango, and Butts, with testing and technical support from many others.

Knee-Deep in KDiZD is a new experience, but holds strong to the atmosphere of the original. It's time to relive KDiZD the way it was meant to be: Experience Knee-Deep in KDiZD.

(But not yet.)

Here, take a promotional picture:
[A PICTURE USED TO BE HERE BUT THE SERVER DIED AND THE PICTURE IS WAY OUTDATED ANYWAY SO WHATEVER]

Coming March 2005

(I figured this would be inappropriate for the ZDoom Projects forum, since it's not for ZDoom, even though it's based on a ZDoom project and it should be fully compatible with ZDoom. If it's fine there, someone can please move it there.)

EDIT: Thanks Phobus for moving this! :)

how the hell are you going to get a fully animated intro map to work with vanilla doom?

also not to be an ass, but this knock off is more than likely going to suck, at least in my opinion...

Pretty interesting way of pushing vanilla doom to it's upper limits. This gets my Award of Pure Awesome.

Belial isn't working on any maps (not at the moment, at least), but he is in charge of gameplay quality-control. :)

Well, this should be amusing.

a KDiZD interpretation for Vanilla Doom. hmm.

I might have to keep an eye on this if it isn't a sadistic joke. :)

I assure you it's 100% real. So far quite a bit of work has been done on z1m1 (entirely built from scratch by me, using measurements from the original), a few rooms of z1m9 (by Tun and myself, based on the KDiZD map with modifications), and most of the DeHackEd work. The Hell Warrior even has a working shield :D

OK, this thread now about how long you expect to last on E1M1. I'd say around 5 seconds, possibly 10 on a good day.

In fact they won't even bother to make any maps besides VZE1M1 because no one's ever beaten it (besides Belial). :P
