This is my first ever Doom 2 wad

Post by Schlomokomo »

The wad is themed around a large castle and is pretty short. The difficulty is high and the map is full of secrets for players to find! The map is multiplayer compatible and has more enemies on UV. I hope you enjoy! :D https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing  P.S. I'm constantly updating the map. Give feedback pls!

Hey, congrats on the first map! I highly recommend that you post at least a few screenshots to make it more likely that people take a look. Here, I made a few:

The file size for screenshots is too big :(

I like it. It's a good first map, and the monsters are balanced quite well. Even the door tracks have lower un-peg set.
As for the level geometry, it may interest you to change the heights of some of your sectors so that the textures align. Also, you might also want to use a grid for more of the sectors so that they're a little more straight.

The wad appears to have been deleted, op is gone and the download link also leads to a deleted file, but I wanted to say that it was good fun and well balanced (on UV, I didn't play anything else), the weapon progression is quick but matches how the monsters ramp up. Aesthetically, texture alignment was already noted, I'll say the entrance and blue door have different visual issues; the entrance transitions directly from outside to ceiling, while the blue door texture loops upward. I imagine neither of those are intentional, they don't seem to be. I'd attach a couple screenshots but I don't know if I should, as it got taken down. If OP is reading, it was fun, good first map, I think.

does the google drive link not work? also I don't know how to put different textures on one side of a sector I thought it just goes up continously

Yes, you can't attach them to the forum, but that's why we have an imgur tag, to post via imgur ;) That's what I did.

The new link works, there are screenshots in the folder with the wad. I misunderstood what was happening as your post wasn't visible last night, and when I followed the quoted link earlier in the thread, it lead to a file which Google Drive said was in the file holder's trash, so it seemed to have been erased.

About the door, I meant that it shouldn't be a door flush with it's walls, but a door slightly embedded into a doorway with lower ceilings (low enough to keep the texture from looping) on either side of it, I took screenshots of both to show better than I can tell. Also the zero height sectors on either side of the door aren't needed. I think the latter is good practice for embedded doors like this.
