Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

Sttutering

Post by Swordman »

This one is strange. Trying the new relentless frontier demo, i have some really bad sttuters/freezes with vulkan. With opengl I dont get those sttuters, but the framerate is lower. I decided to check other gzdoom games (Selaco, Hedon, vainilla doom). All of those have sttuters, although vainilla doom had way less than any of those other games i tested.
I tried gzdoom versions 4.10.0 and 4.11.0. Maybe is a driver issue? I didnt have sttuters with Hedon back then
Pc specs: Intel i3-9100f
12 gb ram ddr4
AMD radeon rx550 4gb, Driver: Adrenalin 23.9.2

I can't speak to stuttering during gameplay, I don't think I tried 23.9.2 for long enough to experience such a thing, but 23.9.3 has some severe issues with locking up the display driver for over ten seconds on alt-tabbing from GZDoom so there is definitely some weirdness going on with AMD drivers as of late. I rolled back to 23.9.1 for the time being and don't experience any other untoward symptoms - I'd recommend you do the same and report back.

Well, that did the trick. Downgrading to 23.9.1 stopped the constant sttuter. I think the fps are a little lower though (From 75 to 72, probably). Thank you for the help

Oh, AMD screwed up their drivers again? Hardly surprising news...

I really wish they'd adopt a more comprehensive QA process. They're far more ethical with their AI technology than NVidia could ever hope to be with their current board, and I really would hate for them to keep screwing things up repeatedly with Vulkan like they did with OpenGL for 2 solid decades. Shit like this just keeps solidifying NVidia's dominance, and it's painful to watch, especially when they could lead by example with open source technology.

Anone wondering why our survey yet again reports AMD as the clear loser in user share among the 3 manufacturers?

That's what disappoints me the most. Of the 3 they are the slightly more ethical of the corporations (even if they are still ultimately a corporation) and do less of the money-grubbing fuckery than the other 2 do, and that includes their open source projects such as FSR1/2/3 and drivers for Linux. Get a QA team, and a more serious commitment to their LTS drivers (aka "CAD" drivers, the ones that update less frequently) - especially with stability and less frequent introduction of bugs, and master the RTX technology - and they probably could potentially choke NVidia right out until NVidia starts upping their game.

Bump. For anyone who might still be paying attention to this thread, I have upgraded to driver version 23.10.2 and am not experiencing any previously mentioned issues.

Bump again. 23.11.1 still has the issue for me, so i guess they didn't fix it
