How to play multiplayer in ZDL Launcher?

I'm probably not supposed to post a question here, but I'm a noob to this forum, so please don't crucify me on a Cyberdemon. =3

Long story short, my dad got me into brutal doom and modding and stuff, and now I'm hooked. We've tried multiple times with ZDL and Zandronum, but no luck.

We want a simple co-op multiplayer that we can play on both of our laptops on the same network, and we want to load mods with ZDL.

BTW, you mayyyy have to explain it like I'm five, because all of the multiplayer options in ZDl look SO confusing.
