Then, unless I have something else to cover my yearly App Store license fee, I'll have to charge it, probably not too much. Or give it away for free if I have something else for sale...
Or maybe I can distribute its source code as GPL with a README on how to compile it yourselves for your iPads? Maybe that's possible hahahah (maybe not). Too bad you'll need Macs in that case.
You can jailbreak iPad devices to remove the "walled garden" restriction. It just turns out that a great deal of the stuff outside of the garden is either shoddy or piracy-related.

Since you're not part of that eco-system, though, it's probably not for you.
Android is probably the best of the alternatives, but it's still kind of janky, and finding a device with the latest OS version (the latest Android version is still on a single-digit percentage of devices), with any chance of getting future OS updates AND without any poorly-coded OEM garbage sprayed across it is kind of like finding rocking horse shit.
Probably best to pretend Windows on tablets doesn't exist for now.
You'd definitely have to roll your own Doom editor either way, not that I can imagine making maps on a touchscreen device would be fun or bearable in any real sense.

Thanks for the heads up
EDIT: I wonder if map editing wouldn't be more practical on the iPod Touch, because it's lighter... One hand will be busy holding the device steady enough so the other hand holding the stylus can precisely draw vertices. Then there'll be toolbars, so you can switch modes, save, open files, go into visual mode... Scrolling and zooming would be done with two fingers or maybe just one (the scrolling), if hopefully the finger tip can be distinguished from the stylus tip. Basic tasks like moving and rotating objects, flipping sidedefs, will also need to be set up...

But can you recommend something like iPad that doesn't necessarily come with walled-garden software policy (getting software only from a designated place), that's also keyboardless? I hate portable keyboards, they tend to break first. And I want to be able to share open-source software on it, and walled-garden is not good for experimenting that.
I'm tempted to use it as a PDF reader, web browser, and not least, for (graphic) design and CAD (hopefully including electronic schematic design and a Doom editor).
I know of a very cheap tablet that is getting rave reviews for not being pricey like wacoms and the like. It's also supposed to work better on Macs than the others despite the software saying it doesn't work on it. (tricky wording, drivers work just fine) Lemme look it up quick. Been almost thinking about it myself if I didn't have other things on my plate.
Edit: It may not be what you're looking for since it's a graphics tablet but I'll still look it up because "spread the word against expensive tablets!" and such.

Too bad Windows Hate is making that the focus platform.

And in doing so, squirting compromises to the touchscreen all over traditional desktops.
Granted, OSX did something kind of similar with Launchpad, but it was pretty easy to ignore. Windows 8's Metro implementation
replaces the goddamn Start Menu.

Does the Windows 8 Metro system have a quick search mode, for keyboard users at the very least? For me that was what effectively replaced the start menu from Windows 7.
When will we finally have desktop or laptop monitors with touchscreen? Keyboards won't go away because people will still need to type. But having to tap the screen when a message box pop up has to be fun and faster than rolling the mouse.

Two aliens now live in my house. They're cats of the Cornish Rex variety/still pretty much aliens.

I just checked on an old version on a VM, and yes, that's still in.
There are touchscreen all-in-one monitor PCs out there, but they're not great for much the same reason that Apple gave for why they aren't doing them - constantly reaching up to touch a vertical display looks cool in product demos, but your arm really hurts after a couple of hours of going up and down, so its actually
less intuitive than a mouse or touchpad!

Right. Only on a laptop would it be reachable. But then, people will start developing apps that require touching the display.

In other words, until they start making computers you lay down on a flat surface touch screens are kinda silly. I know we've seen these desk computers...

Went and watched Prometheus. Pretty good film. Not quite Alien or Aliens quality, but still a good suspense film and does serve as an effective enough prequel. It is its own story while still providing enough connections and answered questions. I think they were only a little bit needlessly aggressive with the visceral elements, but that's neither here nor there. I suppose it's partly CGI to blame. Given the franchise, of course there are going to be body horror elements, but the old style of only showing what was practical just seems more effective than a bunch of computer graphics wigging out on screen all the time.

Yeah, exactly, why does Windows 8 get a Metro desktop background, when you can't use the intended interaction (touch screen) with it. Those virtual buttons demand to be pushed.

Guess I'm too oldschool, but all this pushy-pushy stuff does absolutely not appeal to me.
As for what I'm doing (this image is going to get update sometime soon once I get the last one done.);
