I've been getting into Mixed Reality gaming, I started playing "Guardian of Realms" which is pretty cool, and free.

I was thinking, it would be interesting if there were a mixed-reality Doom game, where your house can be a level, and have 2.5D monsters, barrels, and items spawn in it.

In fact Guardian of Realms has a pretty decent modding community. Maybe someone could just make a Doom-themed mod for it to achieve this.

Anyone else miss the days of campy action movies, big guns, cheesy one-liners and killer soundtracks.... No? No one? Just me? I guess you wouldn't be interested in a new mod for Doom I'm just getting started with then. I've got some code and concept for an awesome action-adventure gameplay mod based on one of my personal favorite Arnold movies. The movie itself almost a parody of all the other action movies he was in. I would love to capture that feeling of the movie all the while making a fun and rewarding gameplay loop that if all goes well will have a custom campaign to playthrough new features I haven't seen anyone do yet and some old standby features popularized by some of the greatest mod authors. As much of a nod to the modders that have inspired me to create this mod as it is to the movies that shaped the kind of mods I enjoy. Code i can pretty much take care of but i am not super versed with making models and most of if not all of the weapons i have planned will likely need to be custom or at least highly remodeled. The mod will have a heavy focus on puzzle solving surrounding the magic ticket from the movie, and a world shifting mechanic to transition between real world and movie to solve puzzles and handle combat in fun and rewarding ways. The players weapons will even change based on if they are in the movie or in the real world. This is pretty early in progress so i don't have any assets other than some code and it hasn't been tested and I also am working on getting sounds.

I hope this wasn't too wordy for just a concept I'll be posting more in the future as I continue to work on it. Any input or advice you can offer a first time modder would very appreciated.

Sounds like "The Last Action Hero." An under-rated movie IMO. I saw it in the cinema when it came out. I thought it was really good and I liked the way that it worked on several levels, while still being unashamedly a 90s action movie. As I understand it, the self-deprecating humour just didn't land for a lot of people, but I thought it worked really well. As I recall, there's a scene where Arnie says something like "you've ruined my life" to the alter-ego version of himself and it was surprisingly poignant.

I always thought that "True Lies" was, at least in part, an attempt to remake "The Last Action Hero" but with a more straight approach to it.

I actually think LAH was ahead of its time and that the humour would be more in tune with modern audiences.

Good luck with the project.

A weapon mod where you play as an actual Archangel

In fact, I've been brainstorming it for a long while, and I even came up with almost all the sprites and a name for it: Lionheart. You can check its WIP thread here.

The problem is that I have zero knowledge when it comes to weapon coding.

Someone should make a modern powerup randomizer for ZDoom using resources from realm667
I noticed there has been a lack of powerup mods for general purpose vanilla doom. I think it'd be cool to use powerups from realm667 (with credit!) and add them as replacers. for example, there are the "tainted" powerups which give good effects and bad side effects, or the infinite ammo powerup, or the beserk sphere. I think it could also spice up gameplay

Has anyone considered making a mod that turns Doom into an

on-rails shooter like Time Crisis?

https://imgur.com/a/dDCUx7l

The basics:
  • Using classic Doom maps the camera would travel through the level slowly to give the player(s) time to shoot, and also stops memorable locations where additional monsters would enter the viewable area or even teleport right in, for longer action scenes.
  • You'd aim the weapon freely to shoot anywhere on the screen as is expected with on rails arcade shooters.
  • Press a button to lean in and out of cover like in time crisis.
  • Be able to shoot down projectiles
Nice to have features:
  • compatible with other mods, as that would allow different monsters and weapons etc to be used.
  • Features from Doom RPG so there's some sense of progression
  • bullet time or fallout 3 VADS
  • network and local Multiplayer compatible (I think people with lightguns would love it, sitting on the couch with friends pew pew)

Portal Gun:
Primary fire creates a blue teleport sprite
Secondary fire creates an orange teleport sprite

If a player, projectile, item, or monster touches one, they are teleported to the other.

You could have a lot of fun with by teleporting monsters into pits and just generally stuffing around through the regular maps.

Monsters can pick up items mod, and use them. (e.g. imp might grab a mega-health and be more powerful, or a pinky might take your red key card)

You have to kill the monster to get the item/power.
