I'll try and name one, at least. I guess MAP27 had this weird tense feeling, with the eerie music and shit. And enemies coming out of nowhere. Shit was like the Vietnam war on steroids.wildweasel wrote:Then why did you post?enderkevin13 wrote:Can't really name any at the moment, sadly.

The race track in Lego island.
That goddamned giant skeleton used to give me so much trouble when I was a child since I was very bad at video games

Tower of Babel, man. First time playing this map at age 7, I was like "holy shit, what could be tough enough to string up 4 barons?" - very eerie indeed. The bunny ending terrified the shit outta me later that same night. Memmoriees~~

Luigi's Mansion actually made me feel creeped out as hell when I was a kid.
Also, Super Mario Sunshine had THIS.
The sounds it made when you would shoot it certainly didn't help.

Shadows of the Empire scared me a few times as a kid. IG88's fight was terrifying. You can hardly see him (which actually is just due poor design), and those noises everywhere... Made me feel a bit scared.
And the whole Sewer-Level. Underwater-Monsters are just absolutely scary for me. What especially creeped me out was the boss: Just this huge tentacle-monster, with that pretty stressful boss-music. And after you kill him, you can dive down further, and you can see it's maw. And it does not look beautiful, I can tell you that.
And the stomping plains from Banjo Tooie. It's quiet, just wind, and suddenly, a gargantuan foot coming from the sky squashing you. As a kid, I always imagined what the whole monster would look like.

not exactly childhood or most scary, but the fact that EWJ didn't have a title song other than the first stage's song as the "default" song (particularly the SNES version) made me feel uneasy. Besides the lack of a password system, it's probably what gave EWJ a slapdash feeling

Resident Evil PS1 trilogy, obvious reasons.
Suspense and Sinister musics as well, still when i play vanilla Doom and hear these songs, they gives me creepy feels.
...heh and then there's the players who says Doom is all about heavy metal but that's not what Bobby Prince wanted with those nor Sign of Evil.

Being a kid who didn't know how to strafe and just used the arrow keys and ctrl, you're damn right I was scared.

I was actually much less scared once I fought Nightmare. It just looks... sad and pathetic, though it's one of the most challenging bosses in the game. Super Metroid definitely felt more like a horror game, despite Fusion being more intentionally horror. I think much of it had to do with the more cartoon-y art style. Super was colorful, too, but it was also grim and made you feel isolated.Clownman wrote:-Nightmare fight-

While I have a friend who has been scared of the fourth level of every Super Mario Bros world, I got chills when I accidentally microwaved the pool water in Maniac Mansion. You be dead.
Also, Arachnophobia's game over screen was in a magazine and... let's just say I didn't play games for several months.
