leileilol wrote:this is starting to sound like complete bullshit as the only maps that came with the IHV release (which you SHOULD NOT HAVE as it was issued to only video card companies like ati, 3dfx, s3, etc) are some large texture test maps, and some curvy area and lava blocks map that you couldn't see any other players in anyway. I don't even think the ihv has working multiplayer so you couldn't have recorded anything anyway. I also really doubt Anna Kang would just email a leak of some totally-confidential-and-classified IHV test to a rather unknown movie making schmuck out there.
Just a simple timeline as the best I can remember it:

Jan of 1999 - We got a leaked version of the HVI Test of Q3 which was meant to be used for video card testing. We shot a 10 minute version of the film over the next few months and submitted a copy of the film to Kathryne who asked that we make the movie more about the Q3 Logo, and less about fighting.

May-July -1999 - We modelled maps in Quake 2 format, models, wrote a new script, and got enough voice actors to help with the entire project.

August - 1999 - We filmed the 33 minute version of Quad God with the Q3 Test 1.08. Todd Hollenshead and Kathryne provided us with the correct copyright info that we had to place on the beginning and end of the film before we released it.

August - 1999 - We released the movie (around Quakecon 99 time period)

Dec - 1999 - Q3 was released and the film was featured in SPIN Magazine. http://tritin-films.planetquake.gamespy.com/spin.htm

Images from the movie shot in Q3 Test before the game was released:

That's the timeline that we operated in. Yes, we had the hvi leaked copy. Yes we shot version 1 of the film in it, and I really don't know what else to tell you other than that you seem pretty angry about it.

Ouch, that's a bit harsh. Most of the people posting in this thread have been quite interested, if not enthusiastic about the project.

I think the shots you have posted look interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
I meant I was suprised at Zdoom's response (it's been all positive) considering that this one guy is pretty angry\upset at a timeline debate on a movie we released 9 years ago. I didn't mean anything against anyone else. So far I've gotten some good voice acting work and feedback in PM's from people here. Thanks everyone. And now that I read what you quoted, I really worded that the wrong way. Sorry everyone.

Wrong again! Q3test 1.08 was August 3 1999. The first public Q3Test client for windows was May 10 1999. If we wanted to go earliest the illegal IHV test leak was February 1999 and that's the earliest available Q3 ever. Anything before that is a total lie! Those are the facts. Case closed!
I got a warning for presenting these facts.

Hil-fucking-arious. The time it took to make the warning could have been better spent at moving the topic to a more relevant forum

Please ignore leileilol. He is known to be such an annoying and arrogant troll who loves picking on other users. His internet handle used to be "CheapAlert" and if you've been on any other forums, try looking for any of his posts - he acts pretty much the same on all of them.

At any rate, your screenshots are pretty impressive. I wouldn't say it would be on the same level as some commercial 3-d animation out there but for a machinima, it looks really cool. :) Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to watch the finished product!

(Cheap, I know you're going to do something so damn predictable like reporting this post. You know what? I don't care. Go ahead! Chicken...)

Leilei spends more time playing quake, talking about quake and developing quake related stuff than anything else it seems so I'm pretty sure she knows what she is talking about. But really, who cares? I don't see why people can't shrug off things like this and continue as normal.

Btw she has a point about the wrong forum thing...

Sorry for the arguments in here guys. I don't know much to say.

She's correct on her dates, and I clarified that 1998 was a confusion on my part. But in the long run, we were using the HVI Test release in Jan of 1999. She's blatantly saying we didn't, and they'res no way we obtained it since it wasn't given to the public. Sorry. We had it anyway. Can't really argue with that.

I'm glad she works on Quake material, I'm a die-hard fan of producing it myself. I've been doing fan shorts for the past 10 years. I wasn't expecting an argument of that significance over a date, or to have any films we created be called "bs" because a date wasn't in order in my introduction. But the height that the argument reached and her comments of me being a "schmuck" movie maker are uncalled for. Tritin Films does have fans, we've put out great material, we love to do what we do, and seeing I had no argument with her, it was really out of left field, and very odd.

Thanks everyone else for the feedback and if you have any other forums you could recommend I'd get more hired guns from, that'd be great.

I wouldn't take Leilei's cracks at you personally. He's the resident Quake head here and has a habit of arguing until he feels he's right. :p

Definately not my intention to butt in or try to invade his space. And his fact quoting didn't bother me. I stand corrected on that particular date. But I myself rarely back down, especially if I happen to know what we used to shoot a movie, and he's blatently stating it never happened because my clame was bs. *shrug

It's more in the way he comes off. When people act like that in person it's usually to start a fight. So it confused me.

Han Solo! I PM'd you for voice tryouts!

I downloaded it this morning. I'll check it out tomorrow. Had a very busy memorial day weekend. I usually work in MP3 or WAV for the timeline editors so if you could point me to an OGG player and converter, that'd be really helpful to me. Thanks for the file so quickly.

wimamp plays ogg's... and so does a lot of players. ZDoom even plays ogg's. I do ogg for compression reasons, but if you need mp3 I can do it.

Hey man, could you throw them into mp3 format for me? That would be a big help. I know 3rd party players run them but it's a tiny hassle since what we're using to edit uses Wavs and Mp3's. Thanks! (sorry for the absense. the office has been ridiculous)
