Before posting your Resource, please make sure you can answer YES to any of the following questions:
Is the resource ENTIRELY my own work?
If no to the previous one, do I have permission from the original author?
If no to the previous one, did I put a reasonable amount of work into the resource myself, such that the changes are noticeably different from the source that I could take credit for them?
If you answered no to all three, maybe you should consider taking your stuff somewhere other than the Resources forum.
I'm putting this up here both to share it and to see if anyone can make it a little better.
I've tried it as a switch in game. It works but there's something about the way the tongue animates that just doesn't seem quite as good as I want it to.
Of course the original texture is a bit rough anyway. I think it originally comes from Hexen II? The ancient Mayans should probably get some credit as well.
Looks slick! I was just thinking today about what happened to all those Aztec textures that were originally slated to appear in Quake. Did they get repurposed into Dissolution of Eternity?
Also @Zrrion, that looks cool! Really ties that bottom area of the texture together.
Original textures come from Chasm the Rift, but a lot of the panels are just slightly off for typical Doom mapping size values (multiples of 8 basically). So, I shifted them around a bit, took some bullet holes off (I didn't need them and they were too repetitive IMO) made some new combinations and some new symbols and... well, that's it really.
The last two in the middle row are: first an attempt to put the panels in a more typical Doom STAR* texture layout but keep the basic style of the Chasm ones and second is little more than a colour overlay and slight touch-up of a Doom texture (needs more work, but it's not much use to me anyway). STARGR1 included as a reference.
The three on the bottom are the Chasm originals that were the starting point for the rest.
Not Doom palette for obvious reasons.
Good enough for me anyway.
Spoiler:
Just messing around as an experiment - not a full map
I found an artist's hi-res rendition of the SKINFACE interpic, applied some GIMP processing to make it look a little more like pixel art and closer to the original image. It looks good in-game. I'd link to the source image but I did it with glazed eyes at about 2am and I can't remember where I found it now.
The final version of urban textures. Everything is based on the original materials of Romero (with the exception of the doors, they are from Duke).
I was not happy with all the textures that I had ever seen before. All of them were not "in the spirit of the Doom" and even someone's attempts at this were not entirely good. So that eventually came about.
Originally made for my Doom 2 Update WAD (it has not yet been publicly laid out), where in fact most of them are assembled from separate patches using the standard TextureEX/Pnames tool. However, for "ready-made use" I'm created also this version of the "assembled" textures.
I did not make too many options, since, I think, everyone can combine this with other textures if they wish.
