Windows 10

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

Fixed that for you. I bet this is Avast doing stupid things that it shouldn't do.

I haven't used any antivirus other than Windows Defender in a while and haven't gotten any viruses.
(The Windows 7 one isn't as good as the 10 one but bleh.)

I changed my entire motherboard & CPU (AMD to Intel even) on one Windows XP installation. It worked just fine.

I have also never done a reformat/reinstall for "maintenance". To me, it's better to throw the junk out of your garage periodically than burn it down and build a new one. :?

XP is neither 7 nor 8. A lot has changed in between.

It also wasn't guaranteed in XP anyway (any especially with anything older). It usually resulted in a BSoD the moment it started booting, so much so that in servicing nobody actually bothers trying and runs the repair install first thing.

Not guaranteed, but not impossible either. I'm hoping it has something to do with the fact that I take good care of my system. (I no longer accept "Windows just gets slower over time" as a rule, because keeping it properly cleaned up has shown me otherwise.) And maybe a bit of luck.

Of course, it also helps if you make sure that disk 0 is still disk 0.

I don't remember with Windows XP but when I was doing hardware migrations with Vista and later, the usual causes of the BSODs on boot was because of the storage controller. Switching from AHCI/RAID to IDE mode or vice-versa did the trick most of the times, though.

It's not really a rule, but a fact because it will somehow getting slower if you don't make a regular maintenance. :P

I was going to say this but wasn't 100% sure.

Sorry for barging in, but I have to say this: Windows 10 is messed up. Doesn't allow good antivirus support. Glitchy, like Vista. In my opinion, I stay with 8.1 as its support ends.

I use the latter. What does Avira have over Avast? Back then when I had this AV, it was prone to false-positives but at the same time efficient.

Avira did not work at all for me. It constantly told me it needed an update, and that the PC needs to be restarted. No matter how many times you pressed that "Update"-Button, how many times that restrated the PC, it still needed update. Also, it did not recognize those Adware-Files that Malwarebytes managed to detect.

My fiancé's computer after an update failed to run the login process when she put in her password this morning. Worked the second time though.

So far it's doing good on my new laptop, mainly because it came preinstalled on it. :P
