Agreed, except for the hardware part: Linux is usually bundled with all the HW drivers it supports, because they're part of it's monolithic kernel. So what people got when they install e.g. Ubuntu is a bulky generic install, which actually supports more HW than default install of Windows. And it's faster because it's well written (the same can't be said about Windows, but there's no real proof, because it's closed-source ;)).

I haven't been able to install the joysticks, but I think the native linux one would support them.

But GZDoom on wine plays better than ZDoom on linux

Has anyone compiled ZDoom for Ubuntu 7.04? Any noticeable problems, etc.?

I'm going to be compiling it in short order, just wanted to know if there was any glaring things before I started.

I have, it works just like it does in 6.10.
The only problem I've come across is that Timidity and ZDoom don't seem to be playing along. Well, I'm running Kubuntu 7.04, so maybe you won't have the problem with Ubuntu's slightly different sound setup. Of course, what I'm talking about is nothing serious at all, not glaring by any means. :)

No, and it probably never will.

Erg. I'm still getting the choppy sound problem I was getting with Edgy (6.10).

Other than that it works with Feisty (7.04) like a charm. :)

I have another very annoying problem when compiling zdoom 2.1.8 (r530):
It compiles without any problems, but when I try to start it,the IWAD selection screen pops on and after that, zdoom crashes with an error message (contained in spoiler)
Spoiler:
Does anyone have a solution for this?
(my gcc is version 4.1,as is my g++,my libc6-dev is version 2.3.6.ds1-13,all of which are from a debian stable apt install)

I'm guessing with gcc being 4.1 that we are running Debian 4.0 (Etch)?
