Call of Duty - Best Shooter of All Time

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

It's still nowhere near the success of Doom, so nothing to worry about.
It's an alright shooter - pretty run-of-the-mill to say the least - but it's still lightyears away from being the best.

This: Like I said earlier though. I hate it's blatant clones more than anything, Plus since they have gone on to make the games moreso a yearly tradition: It's become a joke. ((Especially with Ghosts and Advanced Warfare being dull))

Again: Really the only "new" good thing that keeps me having fun is Zombies, which I am glad they seemed to be bringing it back for Black Ops 3. So I maybe might get it at some point.

Yea, pretty much my thoughts. I mean, there are literally THOUSANDS of world-war shooters, let it be second world war, or perhaps a future warfare. For me, Call of Duty is only one of them. Sure it's very good in graphics, but as you can see from the list of greatest game hits, it's nowhere near the best. Damn it, even Minecraft surmounded it with pixelated 256-colour graphics!

Doom, in the other hand, may be old, but it's much more interesting, has very high replayability (because there is no scripting involved apart from MAP07: Dead Simple or E1M8: Phobos Anomaly), and the great many variations of enemies. And since GZDoom constantly gets updated and supports all SVGA colours, its graphics might be just as good as CoD's.

The thing is, there's no reason for CoD to have more open stuff, it's meant to be a more linear cinematic experience.
Not trying to defend it with no reason, i love most CoD games, but i think they are both Over-rated and Over-hated.

I don't play COD anymore, but when I did I was addicted to MW2. Even after black ops 1 and MW3 came out I always fell back to MW2.

It was unbalanced, frustrating mess yet I still had the most fun on that title, the bad times sucked, but the good times were great. If I had to be real though, COD 4 was probably the best.

Now though? not sure I would even enjoy 4. I'm just not a fan of twitch shooters like I used to be.

Maybe, if they were more creative, it wouldn't have to be the same recycled crap every time, a war game doesn't have to be 100% grounded in reality. Still waiting for that Cybernetic Stalin boss fight.

...he says of a series where the last 5 released games were set in the future.

I originally thought Call of Duty was a tactical shooter game like the Rainbow Six or Delta Force series, placing emphasis on strategic cover and weapons accuracy but future installments gradually did away with that in lieu of more arcade-styled action-packed shooters. It's like having Michael Bay direct Act of Valor or something.

I'm trying to play COD World at War. Seems pretty good, but like in previous installments, I keep getting killed by the phantom grenade that comes from NOWHERE! I never had this problem in the Medal of Honor games. Sure, I might get unlucky in MOH sometimes, but I SWEAR in COD they are often directed specifically at the player! Has anyone else experienced this, and, if so, is there a way to reduce the odds apart from pushing forward?

Anyways, I don't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I got sick of it after BO2 really. I still prefer BO1 the most.
