Re: [WIP] Adventures of Kittie

Okay, does anybody actually have a problem with the project, as in a serious problem, or is everybody just being sarcastic?
I see a similarity in the shape and maybe they could "work" the same way, but that really isn't sufficient grounds for claiming resource theft IMO. Far as the vent texture is concerned, I haven't taken a look at the texture in Adventures of Square. I saw the word "vent", opened up editart, and made this in like, ten minutes...mallo wrote:I see. I bet they work the same.
There's definitely a resemblance.Ed the Bat wrote:I don't see the resemblance. This one certainly looks a lot less like Duke Nukem's Chaingun Cannon, anyway.Jimmy wrote:- The weapon in the first shot. Yeah, that doesn't look like anything else.
I sure thought so. After all, it's not like he's made the first MSPaint-style mod (The Stick Figure, for instance), or even the first one based on shapes (LizardCommando's ShapeSearch).Globe wrote:That's kinda what I'm wondering. I disagree completely. This was the main draw for me.XutaWoo wrote:Regardless of all the other stuff, I'd like to point out that an anthromorphic cat with an outfit that clearly shows off her breasts has connotations that don't really fit the DOOM community in general.
If you're not going for some furry fanservice, a change in wardrobe is recommended. Something more fitting for an actual action girl, instead of a model with "action" poorly staple in front of it. Cargo pants and a tank top or t-shirt, for example, would be good. Or go more stylish, with a trenchcoat and either a fedora or sunglasses. Cartoony or not, a bikini is just kind of sexist and opens up whole cans of worms.
So... proof that Square ripped off Duke's Chaingun Cannon!Jimmy wrote:There's definitely a resemblance.
- It's multi-barrel.
- It's a grey centered trapezoid.
- The hand is on the left and clenched around a handle.
MSPaint Doom and Believer are two more.Ed the Bat wrote:I sure thought so. Sure, there's a niche for this, but I'd think the tale of Catyenka Ivanovna the Purrussian detective that solves mysteries by running through flowerly fields and shooting random enemies would be more appealing to the broad audience than Kittie the bikini-wearing cat.Ed the Bat wrote:I disagree completely. This also sounds like it would greatly appeal to me. That's just good writing, right there.XutaWoo wrote:...the tale of Catyenka Ivanovna the Purrussian detective that solves mysteries by running through flowerly fields and shooting random enemies... film noir-styled cutscenes that are overdramatic despite basically only being "this cat person shot a bunch of people in a flower field"...
Yeah, but the issue is that if you're trying to make a "vent" or "duct" texture for some MS-paint project where the goal is to keep color variance to a minimum, getting the same results isn't that inconceivable. If I was just a little lazier and didn't add those extra patches on my own texture, it would've wound up exactly the same as yours.Jimmy wrote:At this point I don't care whether it was ripped or not, it looks exactly the same.
But the fact that Square has been released so recently means that it's (probably) still fresh in everyone's minds. The demo's been out barely a fortnight. Some folks are still giving me criticism and feedback on delicate issues such as the weapon balancing. I've recently had mappers come forward and express interest in being part of the project's eventual mapping team. So while I don't wish to toot my horn, it would seem as though it's had something of an impact on the community. Which is great - if I can provide a bit of inspiration for fellow modders or potential mappers, then great - I don't object to you making a mod of your own that looks MSPainty or cartoony, as I know I'm not the one to come up with the concept. Just don't make it look almost friggin' identical.Globe wrote:Yeah, but the issue is that if you're trying to make a "vent" or "duct" texture for some MS-paint project where the goal is to keep color variance to a minimum, getting the same results isn't that inconceivable.
