Cool mods people might have missed.

Discuss anything ZDoom-related that doesn't fall into one of the other categories.

Care to link us to the older ones so we can know and possibly experience what it is you're talking about?

i.e. is it this?

The Rebel is a recent release by Richard Smith Long that favors occult-type weaponry. It might be of interest if you liked Satanic.

I've actually been making a list of Doom wads myself, popular & obscure. Looked through /idgames & played anything between 4 & 5 stars, looked through the Cacowards, but I'm sure I missed plenty. Especially interested in any good wads for Heretic/Hexen/Strife.

UPDATE (4/30):

Lots, LOTS more Doom wads added, thanks to Meg@doomer

That is a good list to get started, although some very good wads are not included on it. The Heretic list especially is missing tons of stuff. For example, Shadowcaster? Hordes of Chaos X (all 5 episodes)? Sinful Discharge? Carnage Galore I/II (especially II)? Gulag? Heretic Treasure Chest? History of Fruit? Master's Domain? Maps by Ken Phipps, SailorScout, and/or Pablo Dictter? Those are just the map sets or series I could think of, there are some other single maps.

Obviously some of these might be understandably missed (as is the case in the Doom listings), or happen not to be liked so much by the player who assembled this list, but I doubt the list-maker dislikes all of these offerings. Especially considering that there's a bunch of rather ordinary stuff mentioned for Hexen (and BTW, as extensions to missing Heretic wads, Carnage Galore 3 and Resurrection of Chaos (technically a 6th Hordes of Chaos episode) are missing).

But I agree it is a good list overall. It would take me a VERY long time to list every single thing for all these games that is very good. Especially the single-map wads, there's so many of those I've never even thought about trying to make a list, and this list includes a lot of the best ones.

See, that's why I made the list
Those wads would *never* have been mentioned, and probably many more to come would not have been added either.
I will edit the post with updates (and its accompanying picture) as I get more suggestions.

That fleshes out the Heretic section a bit. Anyone know of any good Strife wads?

Carnage Galore III and Resurrection of Chaos are for Hexen, that's why I mentioned them separately. But I probably wasn't clear enough, so I'll just kindly recommend putting them under Hexen.

Also didn't quote this part but what do you mean in saying they would've *never* been mentioned? Never have been mentioned if what didn't happen?

For Strife, I don't have it but there's a grand total of three wads that I've heard are worthwhile for it:

Day of the Apocalyte
Return of the Order
And finally, the recent highly praised map: "A World in Strife: Raiding the Dam".

I could name many more recommended items to list for Doom/Doom II as well if you'd like. Simply ask me to, I just don't want to make a such a long post without knowing it would be appreciated (waste of forum space and of my time otherwise). But I wouldn't mind doing it.

Noted!

Never would have been mentioned if a relative newbie (who didn't even know about Heretic until about a year ago), discovered ZDoom, got into Doom again, posted a list of good wads he had played, and found out there were a TON of wads he missed playing back in the early days of Doom Legacy :D

Will definitely check those out.

Well, you don't have to go to ALL that trouble.
But if there are a few, really stand-out wads wads that you know of, that would *certainly* be appreciated.

Actually I have a file on my computer with all the best Doom episodes/megawads/conversion I've found. All I have to do is copy/paste so I have put in much of what is on that file but not in yours, plus a few random single maps that I could find easily or that just stuck out in my memory. Sorry if I mentioned one that is already on yours, I probably just missed seeing it. So here's the (very) big list I came up with [note: this list does not cover wads released 2/25/10 and beyond):

One Bloody Night (Erik Alm) - Episode
Subversion (Pablo Dictter) - Mini episode
nhell_d2: Nordhell (Eternal) - Mini episode
Lost Seraphim, The (Virgil the Doom Poet) - Mini episode/possible Partial Conversion

Aeternum (Skillsaw) - Mini episode
Congestion 1024, Claustrophobia 1024, Claustrophobia 1024 2 (all by various) - All megawads
32 Inch Nails (Eternal) - Episode
Spire 1 and 2, The (Michael Reid) - Two single maps
Batman Doom (Ace Team Software) - TOTAL conversion
Axiom (Didy) - Single map
Brotherhood of Ruin, The (Kristian Aro) - Episode/maybe partial conversion
CH Retro Episode (Chris Hansen) - Episode
Death Tormention 1-3 (Paul Corfiatis, Kristian Aro) - Three separate episodes
Dystopia 3 (Iikka) - Episode
Wart 1-4 for Skulltag (Carnevil) - Four separate single maps
NIlla Doom (Use3D) - Episode
Zaero (Steven Searle) - Mini episode/maybe partial conversion
Real World 1 and 2 (Alexis Neuhaus) - Contain 20 and 10 maps respectively (multi-episode, episode)
Enjay's Marine Assault (Enjay) - Single map/perhaps partial conversion
Prometheus Experiment, The (Lorenze) - Episode
End Game (various) - Episode
Community is Falling 3 (Kaiser) - Total conversion/epic jokewad
Titan 1 and 2 (Ixnatifual) - Two separate episodes

Anything by Kurt Kessler (many, many single maps)

That's a very long list that should have many, many helpful suggestions. I hope you can appreciate it, glad to help.

Any good mods missing from that list, anyone? Not level wads, but wads that add in new weapons, monsters, etc.

I've looked through both these forums & the DRD Team site, but I'm sure I'm missing some.
