So in other words, this is like speed mapping?
I'm not sure if I'm good at speed mapping, but maybe it'll be fun?

In case I do want to join, how early do I have to show up? Is it okay if I show up the day before (and not earlier)?
Forget it. That was a stupid question.

So far both sessions have run on quite a bit longer than intended. I really want to keep it short this time though if it can be helped, but that's not to say it's necessarily speedmapping, just fairly lax mapping in a short span of time.

It is certainly not a contest, no-one gets a prize for best or longest map, the whole thing is meant primarily for beginner mappers who might be trying their first serious effort. :) They're the ones I'll be catering to most, to make sure they get the help they need.

Right. So that means I should stay out of it?

I know I made two public maps but I still get the feeling I could use some pointers. My biggest problem is usually finding a concept/theme and sticking to it.

For instance, say I want to make a village, but then "should there be a river?", "what about some moutains", "no wait, forget the mountains", "ugh what textures should I use." Then I make an area, later I delete. Then I make another area, and then later I delete it again because I think it's crap.

I also suck at detailing... So yeah.

Everyone's welcome, old or new. If you have rough spots in your mapping, come to the Discord - before, during or after the session - and ask me or our team of dedicated tutors directly for help.

Me thinks this imp is either

A) too happy
B) is looking forward to bobbing for marine heads
or C) is too drunk to stand up and had to rely on the revenant to hold him while that photo was taken

Texture wad!

Standard: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kmq7rvbgy1kzl ... e.wad?dl=1
ZDoom-compat: https://www.dropbox.com/s/weyz72nznrytw ... m.wad?dl=1

The standard texture wad works in Boom, if you prefer to map/test in PrBoom and such. It should also be Vanilla-compatible.

The ZDoom texture wad uses TX markers and ANIMDEFS to define the textures.

To reiterate, any map format is permitted as long as ZDoom supports it!
Please use the Doom 2 IWAD.

Currently I'm at map 09. So far I had found some unpegged textures in the first levels, but check this image. This one is from map 03, I don't know if it was intentional or simply forgot to change the texture, and if it was intentional, the outside area is not marked as a secret or something...
Edit: You can pass through this to go to the outside area...

That is a deliberately placed secret, as you can go outside and there are more items and monsters. Maybe the outside sector should be marked as secret - I'll note it down.

Ok. Finished the mapset. Maps 11 and 20 are the hardest by far, the last 3 levels is all about saving ammo, the first 10 levels (01-10) have lots of ammo as well as map 12.
There are few maps that lacks detail, but that's understandable as well as other maps with good quality. Map 11 needs balance, adding a berserk and some health/ammo would be good. Map 20 is a big challenge because it only has the rocket launcher and you have to deal the splash damage. And try to clear map 19 only by punching as well as I did. A mix of difficulty and quality maps, recommended for a good challenge. Good mapset. Well done, guys.
