If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

The overlooked mobile Wolfenstein 3D clones.

Post by maseter »

Just some interesting oddware, in 2007 & 2008, Ukrainian developer NETSOFTWARE released these mobile games:

And if you can find them, i hear they are playable in KEmulator, a J2ME emulator.

While I don't care much for these clones, I did play the original ones by id software, and I'm pretty excited to hear J2ME can be emulated! I thought for sure that era of mobile gaming would be lost forever. Though I gotta say I can't see myself running off to get my fix of nostalgia with them (I guess it's evident that I didn't care enough to look for emulation), it feels good to know I could theoretically do it. :P
I did spend an awful lot of time playing them, even though their story was paper thin and the mechanics were nothing to write home about, but then again what can you expect from a mobile game, it's shocking how little have they developed despite today's larger screens and more powerful hardware.

Found Bunker3D 2.0, here's the sprites, textures, and MIDIs I was able to pull. A few files I didn't recognize, the B3D ones, those are included since they're just really small files. Originally the PNGs were named B3D as well and had %PNG replaced with 2 characters whose meaning I don't know. Ripped files from the biggest resolution version and the second largest because they were a little different and they didn't all appear to be basic resizes.

They look pretty impressive for Wolf3D clones; they even have non-90-degree walls. The enemy sprites have only four rotations though.

glad vintage fps are still being made, even if they are mobile. Can't wait to see sprites from these games ripped in the future.
Quick question, has anyone from the ZDoom community thought about producing a game like this for the mobile? I would have thought someone like Enjay or LWM would have had a shot at it.

Uh so that's the fps game that I played over my nokia 5310 with 1mb ram :O (and Wolf 3d could run with less ram, but the original one was made in "machine language" this one uses the fat java O__O )

I've been asking about Doom RPG/Doom 2 RPG rips for a good while now. Only one person's figured it out, and they're keeping it under their hat until they release a massively ambitious port of Doom 2 RPG to GZDoom.

In case other people are monitoring the thread, I've got some J2ME Wolfenstein clones in my thread at the bottom. http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=37442

3D Shiver and The Overtaker 3D, which has some impressive enemy sprites.
