I've seen all sorts of dedication to Pokemon. One isn't the kind to max out stats through grinding and specific training and breeding methods, but IS the kind to pursue a full pokedex throughout all series and treasure that collection. Meanwhile I know my niece's fiance has been breeding and training out a line of champion Pokemon that will make any casual player weep at how tough it is. There's literally something for everyone in the core game.

I've only had small kids show me their collection or saw a few Pokeman cartoons with them when I babysitted them, and at least the design of the cards and the cartoons seemed strongly targeted at a very low age. Unlike something like Doom. But maybe there is an appeal for older audiences somewhere I haven't seen. My experience with Pokemon is limited to the above. But sure the game can be viable for adults also despite the visual design. Or maybe there are more versions? I just haven't seen any adults actually do anything Pokemon related, unless on behalf of their kids, before Go.Arctangent wrote:I'm kind of surprised that so many people on this forum fall into the pitfall of "Pokémon is just a kid's thing." Is Mario suddenly "just a kids thing," too? What about Dragon Quest?
It's not really about how old a product is but about who it's designed for. Some cartoons for example are clearly only designed for kids while other cartoons contain content such as jokes kids won't understand, but adults will. Like Shrek. A science-fiction horror game with gore, demons and satanic imagery probably was not designed for small children even though small children existed when it was made.
But as said I will check out Go as I want to see what it's all about. But it's not released where I live yet.

Shrek is definitely not what i'd call a kids-appropriate film. it's shockfull of popular references, and they often have very grotesque themes in them you wouldn't really show to your kids.
as for Pokemon, at least a handful of my adult friends are into it, and i've at least seen someone around my age playing a 3DS Pokemon outside the house, so i think you're just not hanging out with that kind of crowd, Ixnatifual.

Maybe I will be that crowd once I get the game.

So the game released here a couple of days ago, got it installed and... oh, right. This requires a constant internet connection... welp, that's the end of that then, I've got no internet plan, I'm not paying for an outdated overpriced 100 megs a month that likely wouldn't even be enough for regular play anyway.
Besides there's absolutely jack-all in a 2 mile radius except for one lonely pokestop, not even any pokemon spawns. Sucks to live in the outer rim suburbs, I guess.

Let's talk about EV training for a moment. This is a long process of breeding out multiple generations of pokemon to ensure they roll maximum stats for that particular pokemon. That's only the beginning. Pokemon only know four moves, so making sure you breed out the right egg moves, pick the right moves as they level, and teach them additional moves with move trainers to make them near invincible. I've seen it-pokemon that can take severe type disadvantages and still come out on top all because they're using moves to mitigate their issues. That TV show is nothing more than a tutorial.Ixnatifual wrote:I've only had small kids show me their collection or saw a few Pokeman cartoons with them when I babysitted them, and at least the design of the cards and the cartoons seemed strongly targeted at a very low age. "Whats your thoughts about this new Pokémon Go app?" - no intel android support, no Windows phone support, no brazil support, can get robbed, can end up dead.
No thanks, I'm going to wait for the porn vr simulator...

Of course no Windows Phone support. Windows 10 Mobile is a dying breed and even Microsoft is bailing on the project.
Brazil will come soon. Every time they turn on a new region the servers just die because the traffic load completely kills it. Consider they're used to Ingress levels of traffic...

If you're going to complain about things, you at least have to make sure your complaint even still exists, otherwise nobody will take you seriously.ibm5155 wrote:no intel android support

Re: Whats your thoughts about this new Pokémon Go app?
So it's a relevant concern since Pokemon Go does not support Intel Android.

Yes it does, they added support! Are you even paying attention to what I said? His complaint doesn't even exist anymore.
