I am sort of siding with Mark here: even though I am not very enthusiastic about Doom 2016 either, I can still appreciate any effort to salvage the good (or at the very least, noteworthy) elements of the new game. That being said, the Doom 2016 addon is obviously a side-project and is nowhere near as polished or even complete as D4D.
Still, PD3 is for different game, so it is irrevelant here.
Well, I think that that those voices accusing him of being hypocritical were inappropriate - him pointing out what does he not like in the new game (I think the major backlash came from his "Doom 4's Shotgun and Plasmagun suck" video) does not prevent him from making a mod based upon Doom 4, so I think we agree here.
Also, one more thing you mentioned earlier:
I played the newest version of the Doom 2016 addon and it once again demonstrated why Demon Runes do not belong in Classic Doom levels, especially if they are to randomly replace Soulspheres.
In E1M7, for example, I got stuck in a secret area covered in slime because a Demon Rune has been placed in front and the Baron of Hell form is too tall to go through doors. Since I was playing in Black Metal difficulty, I could not just noclip my way out. Really frustrating.
I got the same issue when playing Zion. Well, of course the original maps were not accustomed to demon morphing. But the solution is simple:
a) Allow crouching for player demons! Simple, yet effective! (screw the sprites, they are not important). Mancubus or (obviously) flying demons should be exempt from this.
b) Make demons themselves drop the runes when killed. This way you can control where does the rune drop, by luring them out into adequate areas.
(in the worst case scenario - could you just not wait out the morph, until you get back to human form? By the way, I think that you should be able to cancel the morph prematurely, to further avoid it being a nuisance instead of a fun powerup)
