any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
Just asking if there are resources for doom 4 monsters or anything (other than the obvious Merser's enhancements)
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
A DOOM 2016 monster pack would take ages to make, much longer than a weapons pack. You'd have to rip the sprites of all the rotations of all the monsters. I've seen some DOOM 2016 styled monsters being made already, but a full pack is a long ways off, if ever. The weapons are always at a higher demand, as you can probably tell. I think there are like four or five new DOOM weapon mods being made now.
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
I'd do a model rip if I could but I'll say this; as Nevander said it would take ages, not that I wouldn't be willing to do it, oh believe me I would, but doing the rotations, plus the animations for all their behaviors (especially if I wanted them to be smooth, which I do! And I want their behaviors to mimic D4's monsters very closely so it'd be a lot of work, cause they do a lot more than our classic friends we're used to.) would probably be a month's work for each monster, just to get it done properly.
Models would be better, but someone would have to draw them from scratch or something... I imagine it would be impossible (and illegal) to use D4's models straight out of the game (not really seeing how one would convert it to MD3 or anything even if they did somehow manage to actually get the models as of right now, and the level of detail might be a hassle on the game either way.)
I've seen someone talking about doing a monsters pack, they posted a sprite of the Cacodemon and I must say I'm pretty damned impressed, so it seems someone's making it, just have to wait and see how that turns out, when it's out.

Just out of curiosity, is there actually a way to rip Doom 4's models with the animations and everything? Since there's no propper modding tools, I assumed something like that was out of question.
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
To my knowledge there aren't. That's the only reason I haven't even attempted it. The way I see it, it's still too early on. Maybe somewhere down the line a model viewer will be made but who kows.
EDIT: I also remember Zion's team saying they may be planning on doing monsters as well but that would be way way in the future. They're focused pn the weapons right now, and from the sounds of it they're giving the mod an overhaul to match up with the official release of DooM(2016) and that in itself is taking a while. But the monsters bit itself is still up in the air.
All in good time though.

Well, I'm not all that concerned about the weapons, since we have an upcoming mod ready for that. As for monsters, Merser's Enhancement mod for BD should be a step in the right direction (it helps that the author is still working on Doom 2016-ifying the monsters.
The real question now is to rip the monster sound effects, since it seems like the weapon sound effects seem to be taken care of, for the most part.

Yeah that's shaping up to look pretty good, although the imp looks like an earlier design as opposed to what we have now...Hellstorm Archon wrote:Well, I'm not all that concerned about the weapons, since we have an upcoming mod ready for that. Yeah, the sound effects is also what I was thinking about -- honestly I think those might be easier to retrieve, just need to know how.
Also, if anyone still wants to go the modeling route I had thought some existing modified D3 models could be used (WITH permission from the (re)modelers of course) for certain monsters, with further modifications of course.
If I knew how to work Blender I'd get some D3 models converted and get to work on that myself. Though I'm still learning how to use Blender and 3DSMax, and I'm a bit worried about how my modelling skills would be in the first place (Hey I'd try anyways.) But that was one of my ideas (since I'm starting to use models more anyway.)
Could be one way to get it done faster (maybe.)
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
(Anyway... putting a heavy tail on the pinky would be a D4 monster AND would make Pinky's anatomy believable...)
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
Actually I was thinking the Guardian could be used for that, with some heavy modifications... but the pinky would be a bit tougher to work on model-wise.
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
BTW, I was reading some old Doom3 monsters sprites topics, and I did see that there was a try for Guardian sprites by the RoE betas team, but I could not find it... is it still around?
Re: any "Doom 4 monsters for classic doom?" stuff?
I haven't seen it, I'd been looking all over for that but that's pretty interesting as well...
On-topic, I'm hearing more and more about D4 monster mods, but seeing little done towards them.
Me? Garbage at spriting. Still learning modeling, yet at a sloooooowwww pace because life won't let me have much spare time. Gimme time, I might be able to whip stuff up eventually though lol.
