Why does everyone care so much? I bet no one here even plays it. Sounds like hate just to hate, honestly.

Like or not, this series has had a pretty influential effect on the rest of the industry. If Activision wants to start charging $80 for "standard edition" games, who's to say others won't follow? Think back to around 2007: next-gen console games were priced around $60, but their respective PC versions were still lingering around $50...until Activision decided CoD4 would cost $60 across the board. They were among the first. It is now an industry standard that brand new games cost $60 on all platforms.TheMightyHeracross wrote:Why does everyone care so much? I bet no one here even plays it. I'm indifferent towards the gameplay aspects; there's a place for games like this, and as much as purists in this community will rant about regenerating health and aiming down sights, there's a place for those, too.

myself, i've literally never played a COD game and all i know of is that they're stupidly popular. maybe i'd like the Modern Warfare remaster if it was on PC, but do i really care enough to blow over a hundred bucks to play it? not really. it's kind of like the pop music of gaming at this point, being regurgitated at an incredible pace and making lots of money.

What leaves to be determined is exactly how "remastered" is it going to be? Activision also advertised a "remaster" of the original CoD game with Modern Warfare 2, but it wound up being literally exactly the same game as CoD1, just with widescreen and gamepad support.Viscra Maelstrom wrote:myself, i've literally never played a COD game and all i know of is that they're stupidly popular. maybe i'd like the Modern Warfare remaster if it was on PC, but do i really care enough to blow over a hundred bucks to play it? not really. it's kind of like the pop music of gaming at this point, being regurgitated at an incredible pace and making lots of money.
In my opinion, though, CoD4 already looks just fine; the only thing they'd truly gain from it is some extra screen resolution, which the PC version already gets.

If the consumers of their games agree to this, that is consumers problem. However, it is kind of strange that other companies do not try price competition in such case... but it seems that they think that buyers do not condemn Activison's games price raise, so they are following the leader and trying to profit as much as market allows.wildweasel wrote:Like or not, this series has had a pretty influential effect on the rest of the industry. But, we are not going to stop their price-control through talking about it on a Doom-related forum. We are just giving them more attention. The best way to counteract their price-rising practices is just not buying their stuff. End of story.

So now the legacy edition seems to have the $79.99 price tag.
And the trailer does a better job of presenting the story than Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3, i'm actually legit interested in this game.

Doesn't look too bad imho. I might give it a run when its out. Just for the spaceships.
But to stay on-topic: As someone who's played most Call of Duties and isn't a very dedicated fan, I can say that it certainly looks better than Advanced Warfare. What bugs me is my theory that Infinite Warfare will have the same "ten minutes loading" issue Advanced Warfare had. And every single time it had to load, I had to watch the intro. Also, changing video options causes the level to restart, thus waiting another 10 minutes. Yet another thing - no options in main menu if I recall correctly. This was a long time ago so I might be wrong on this, but if true, then it's definitely an issue. Guess we'll see.

As for Modern Warfare 1,i saw a video showing comparisons between the original and the remaster, and it seem they are going to completely redo the textures to make the game look 'next-gen'.

The COD4 remaster's being done by Raven. It's nice to see them still gunning along after that time travel game nearly killed them.

Singularity?! How come? I actually liked the game - it was interesting. At least to me.Kinsie wrote:The COD4 remaster's being done by Raven. It's nice to see them still gunning along after that time travel game nearly killed them.

Re: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (+remastered MW1)
Development went very badly, and the game was released ten months late as a result, well after its marketing push had come and gone. Combine that with Wolfenstein 2009 not doing very well sales-wise and Raven had to let a lot of people go to stay alive.Lud wrote:Singularity?! How come? They've managed to claw their way back into being a fully staffed and busy development studio, but as a direct consequence they only really do Call of Duty stuff nowadays - multiplayer map packs, development support, the Chinese F2P spin-off, and now this remaster. On one hand, it's a shame they probably won't ever do their own IPs again, or if they do, it won't be for a long time. On the other, they're shipping multi-million-selling titles on the regular, which is a far better fate than being consigned to history.
