A HUGE ENEMY STANDS IN YOUR WAY. BE PRAYING.

If it's not ZDoom, it goes here.

CHIMERA BEAST

Let's play a Schmup where you're Rampage meets EVO. It's too bad the world never got to see this one released when it was made!
There's a good end, if you lose on the final battle.

More good deals on games about spaceship murder:
ESCHATOS Wonder Pack is $3.75 (75% off) at WinGameStore.

It contains ESCHATOS, its Wonderswan homebrew precursors Judgement Silversword and Cardinal Sins, and the OST as a single Steam key.

I have also seen Parodius, but not sure how good quality that is compared to others listed.

GunRoar should be added to the freebie list. I just love how you can do twin stick settings or mouse and keyboard settings in it.

I actually have Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (the third one I think) for the Saturn. It's basically Gradius in a pair of clown shoes with loads of characters who lampoon fighters from lots of other shmups. Highly recommended.

Also, the first level has KC & the Sunshine Band as its BGM

The Parodius series is great. There's a fantastic compilation of the entire series (except the weird turn based strategy spinoff on PS1) that was released for Japanese PSPs, called Parodius Portable. It's well worth perusing, but physical copies are kinda pricy nowadays.

Aw, no Irem Shmup mentions besides R-type. anyway i'd like to introduce this monstrosity;

the name is X Multiply. internal, Xeno-based, monstrous and hard as alien shit. and TBH, irem shump games have some really weird, creepy but awesome designs. and this one mostly sums up right.

Cave and Degica are teasing something happening in a couple of days relating to their Steam ports. Judging by a slip-up in the page source code that they quickly covered up, it'll be related to the DoDonPachi series.

A Raiden-esque game called WOLFLAME was released on Steam today for six bucks, and a doujin shmup from five years or so ago called RefRain will be releasing in English in two weeks or so.

DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu is coming to Steam in Fall, and M2 are bringing Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS to PS4 in the Winter!

At last I get to play it with a proper D-pad (the 360 one sucks so bad I needn't have mentioned it tbf). LOVE that game.

It's been a while, hasn't it?

Our very own Alterworldruler has released another shmup on Steam! It's called Zenodyne R, and it has very nice music.

Degica announced that Shooting Love 200X (a compilation of minigames by Triangle Service) will be getting gradually PC-ified as separate games throughout the rest of the year.

...as well as Trizeal Remix and Exzeal.

Lotsa good stuff on the way!

Bump, but it's worthwhile.

In case anyone missed it, DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu is now out on PC (also 15% launch discount until 24/10/16 ;)).

And as an aside, I've been knocking the shit out of Caladrius Blaze on the PS4. Well worth getting.

Speaking of which, he's a superplay of Zenodyne by one of my favorite Shmup guys, Jaimers.

If you don't mind some adventuring in between your schmups, give Guardian Legend a try.
