Re: Fallout 4
Yeah, I do hear people saying it disables achievements, but it's the Creation Engine. I've never seen it happen so far, and I don't feel like it will disable anything. I've had no problems so far, thankfully.

Re: Fallout 4
Console disabling achievements is only true for Fallout New Vegas. I recently finished playing NV (just an hour before Fallout 4 unlocked :D) and I noticed that I never got achievements anymore because I had to use the console to fix quest-breaking bugs. >:(

Re: Fallout 4
that's also a game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, not Bethesda Game Studios, so it makes sense that it's the only exception to the rule.

Re: Fallout 4
Not for changing the FOV it doesn't. I've been using FOV commands and the occasional TCL when I get stuck and it still tracks achievements.wildweasel wrote:Doesn't using the console disable achievements?

Re: Fallout 4
What in the actual fuck. That is unacceptable. I am an arrow key guy and I use the numpad as my E, R, and F. That is just so wrong. This sounds like straight up console port laziness to me. I sincerely hope and suspect that will have to mediate this with a patch soon. That's just unaccetable period. I'm not going to install my copy until it's fixed.ShadowTiger wrote:I have rebound my keys from WASD to the arrow keys, where I'm fully used to them, and it actually breaks a few things, unfortunately. The only way I can actually move around when in base-building mode (Scrapping, building, "activating," etc.) is by the automove button, and that's obviously only forward and not incremental; it's automatic. That's pretty horrible. Because the arrow keys are hard-coded to cycle through the building options on the bottom of the screen.
I hear the only workaround so far is from AutoHotKey, and I'm just not comfortable setting up something like that as a solution. It shouldn't have to be a solution. Especially because the entirety of the NumPad is reserved. But reserved for what? Really? Is it just for weapon/item shortcuts? The number row above the alphabet works fine!
It actually only disabled them per session. This means you could add a million bottle caps, lockpicks, and max everything then save and quit, restart the game, come back and get all the achievements no problem. I had to use the console myself, not to cheat but, to do like you said. Fix some quest bugs, remove quest item flags (stuck quest items in my inventory is the bane of my existence) and other crap like that.Nash wrote:Console disabling achievements is only true for Fallout New Vegas. Even if using the console in F4 disabled them permanently, there's bound to be a flag or key somewhere to change back to signal to the game the console wasn't used yet.

Re: Fallout 4
Calling it now: none of these issues will be fixed in the next TES game, running on Creation Engine 2.0, probably to be released in 2020. They're making so much money and will continue to, that means nothing is broken right?!

Re: Fallout 4
Feargus, the bossman at Obsidian (New Vegas), was prodded about Bethbugs during an interview. To cut a long story short from the perspective of someone who's actually shipped a game using it, the bugs are just a consequence of having a really flexible, expandable engine built around building big worlds with tons of crap in then, and doing it with a fast, easy-to-use development pipeline. They could probably fix it, but it'd take literally an entire year (at the least) of doing literally nothing but bug hunting, and that would have a lot of unknown side effects in the long term - reducing the cool unpredictable moments that pop up in those games, programmer burn-out...
That link queues it up to the start of that bit. The segment ends at the 1:59:00 mark. You should totally listen to it, it goes into other game engines as well from the eyes of a grizzled veteran.

Re: Fallout 4
26 hours in... if any of you plan to play this game like a first person shooter; try not to invest too much into the idea. The hitboxes are HORRIBLE - somehow the enemies' hitscans magically hit you without problems, but (probably because of the "RPG elements") your shots somehow scatter enough that they then collide with the coarse hitboxes of the world so you're basically just hitting the level objects most of the time. And even if they don't scatter (something I can't really test yet because I'm not a high level), as I said, the collision is just horrible and your shots just end up hitting level objects. Enemies have no problem with this. Just you.
Also I think the game is punishing you for not investing into crafting, just like Skyrim. Meaning, if you ignore crafting, you're left with mediocre weapons and armor. But I dunno, I don't understand enough of the game mechanics yet - but it does look like the same Skyrim problem so far!

Re: Fallout 4
Maybe I have a different game or something, but you are very wrong about the hitboxes. They are really good for the enemies and the terrain. Also the weapons don't seem to work like that, maybe just because of my SPECIAL and level or something. You are totally right about the crafting, but unlike skyrim's it's actually really good in this game.Nash wrote:26 hours in... if any of you plan to play this game like a first person shooter; try not to invest too much into the idea. Re: Fallout 4
I've had only one problem with shooting in this game, and that was with trying to basically shoot between five different detail models to try and be a clever dick. I probably would have had the same issue in most other games. The gameplay mechanics are pretty much worlds better than in FO3 and New Vegas.

Re: Fallout 4
Aiming "on the hip" definitely is less accurate because there are perks to improve that, implying that some randomization is going on and your on the hip shots aren't as accurate as, say, Doom. Aiming down with Mouse 2 only makes it slightly more accurate, but it is then offset by the annoying fact that I have to HOLD down the button which affects my aiming movement (2015 and still no toggle aim, sheesh). My character build is more put into Charisma and Science, maybe not such a good idea in hindsight if I have to get into a gunfight...
