Fallout 4
So who's playing Fallout 4 right now?! I have about 1 more hour to go for it to download. I am super nervous about this, I hope my rig will be able to play this comfortably on high/mid-high'ish (I think I'm going to have to custom tune the graphics settings like what I did with GTA5 so no presets).

Re: Fallout 4
I will have to play it on my PS4, unfortunatly. My PC wouldn't handle it.
I guess it's gonna be my christmas-wish.
One question:
Is it one of those games where the user-interface for the status-screen, inventory... is as complicated as Witcher3's one? Because I don't like menus that look like they were Visual Studio.

Re: Fallout 4
The menu so far is similar to Fallout 3's, though there do feel like there are differences that will take some getting used to. It's still text based until you decide to inspect an item. The inspect item key enters a lot of much-needed greater detail on that item. But again, it's way too early for me to say. I've been doing 99% picking up of items and 0.5% inventory work. I don't even know what the remaining half a percent is. I didn't sleep.
I have an i5 2500 running at 3.3 GHz (Or was it 3.7; I'm not at my home PC to check.) with 8 GB of RAM, and a newly installed NVIDIA (EVGA brand) GeForce 750 Ti Graphics Card that I had to get three days ago when I found out that my NVIDIA 650 had 1 GB less VRAM than I needed. I didn't meet the minimum specs all for 1 GB of VRAM. I was disgusted.
So now I'm playing on almost absolute lowest graphics settings and it still looks pretty awesome, except for the shadows, which are heavily unblended. I'm far more concerned with framerate and playability than graphics though, so I'm very happy. It does play extremely smoothly. Seriously, I'm overjoyed.
I wish the controls were more like Fallout 3's. I mean, they are, to a degree, but there are a lot more keys that are reserved. I used KeyPad0 for sneak, for example, and now I find out that it's permanently bound to one of three item shortcuts. What's up with it being 3, 4, and 0? That's far too weird, yo. I go to sneak, and I use a stimpack. I have it bound to backspace instead. ... of all things. I use the arrow keys. I can't keep reaching over to use A and Tab all the time. But I'll get used to it.
Immersion-wise, I'm very happy with it! If you just kinda roll with it, everything works. It happens quickly enough to set you off into the wasteland without involving you in pre-war sidequests and having too many things to distract you. I didn't have a chance to leave the house before the bomb scare went off to go around talking to people. I don't feel like this is a spoiler because a bomb drops at some point and anyone who thinks there won't be a bomb is lying to themselves.
I am LOVING the crafting system. I can get used to the clunky interface, but the mere fact that we can scrap so very, very, VERY many things is amazing and beautiful. At first I thought that you could only scrap from right in front of the workbench, but then I went outside the held in the 3rd Person Button, and as long as you're in range (There's a huge green aura thing) you can walk around and scrap any nearby objects. I just wish you could walk around while doing it. It's pretty tedious having to swap between modes like that.
But really, I can't overstate how happy I am that every pickup now has a use. Everything. Even if you have to leave a resource in one workstation over another, you know it's still there for use. I don't know how my weapons supply will be though. I tend to make one or two weapons "my own" and then stick with them as long as possible. I tend to be the sniper'ish sort of player, so my desire to use other kinds of weapons is small.
I haven't gotten into much combat yet except for having been swamped by molerats and one friendly immortal dog, but I do look forward to delving deeper.
My character has 7 Agility and 7 luck, and 3 and 4 of every other stat. Working well so far.

Re: Fallout 4
Surprisingly enough the launcher auto settings set the graphics quality to Ultra (!!!) on my computer but it gets unplayable fast when the view is too complex. Had to manually tone down some settings, mostly shadows and godrays made a huge difference.
Here are my specs BTW. This machine is OLD!
Intel i7 950 @ 3.07 GHz
15 GB DDR3 triple channel
Nvidia GTX 960
Only the graphics card is relatively new. I think if I upgraded the graphics card, it would perform better.
Game ran flawlessly, no crashes. Which is surprising because Skyrim crashed for me on day one, ten minutes into playing it, in the tutorial cave just after the spiders. :P
This game is amazing. The environment looks gorgeous and rich, texture detail is pretty high and surprisingly the voice acted player character works good! Animation is kinda meh but I don't really care about that.
Well, back to playing...
(Playing as Howard BTW, but put Nora in front just 'cuz)

Bugs, interface issues, bugs, streamlining, bugs, more bugs. It's Fallout 3: 2.

It's basically a Bethesda game, then? =PSamVision wrote:Bugs, interface issues, bugs, streamlining, bugs, more bugs. It's Fallout 3: 2.

As much as people want to play this now, I'd rather wait a week or two for them to cull out the inevitable FUCKHUEG BUGS that the game has.

Re: Fallout 4
Its been pretty good for me. I'm running pretty old drivers, so I'll hold off on performance reports for now. (Hint: It's terrible for how the game looks. I can run Crysis 3 at a solid 60 on high, but I run this at 20-60 on high. Which looks considerably worse than Crysis 3)

Re: Fallout 4
How much do they hate it on NMA?
Apparently they hate it because there are cats in the game now.
Sorry if the presence of cats is a spoiler.

Re: Fallout 4
Funny, no bugs on my end. Played for 4 hours with no crashes. OF COURSE there's the usual game-ey/Gambryo/Creation Engine stuff like funny pathing and crappy animation but there are no bugs in my experience yet. Nothing broke my game or progress.
EDIT: just noticed that rain finally doesn't go through the roofs. Only took them 13 years to implement!

Re: Fallout 4
Well installed newer drivers. Runs ok on my 7950, could have done better though. That aside, I love the game.

Re: Fallout 4
I am getting terrible performance even though my req are well within acceptable. Besides that I am also getting too many bugs, an almost unusual amount so far. I'll hold out playing it until they at least fix the bugs and performance.

Ironically, the beta patch fixes most of the Day One issues.Blox wrote:As much as people want to play this now, I'd rather wait a week or two for them to cull out the inevitable FUCKHUEG BUGS that the game has.

Re: Fallout 4
My verdict on the new dialog system - try-hard Mass Effect wannabe, nice attempt at making the game more cinematic but the stiff animation and bad lipsynching just makes it look more game-ey and awkward. XD And the player's choices and the way s/he says it when you click on them... urgh, nope.
The crafting side game though... holy crap. It's like a completely separate game itself. I totally forgot about the main quest.
