Well, I guess it's been long enough.

Heretic support is officially coming!


Two things to note:
-The Wings of Wrath have been changed to last until the end of the level, and you'll even respawn with them if you die. When I was young, I ended up playing Hexen first, and liked how the Wings of Wrath did not expire over time. It would not be until many, many years before I gave Heretic a try and was disappointed to learn the Wings of Wrath was time limited there. And besides, who would want to get stuck in that pit in E2M2?
- Homing Missiles are ineffective against ghost monsters! The Crusher Missiles will also fly through them, although the resulting explosions will still deal damage.

I still need to do some more testing, and try and re-record some sounds in BizHawk's bsnes core (which is more accurate to the SNES than most emulators), but the bulk of Heretic support is done. This is probably subject to change, based on the feedback.

Edit: also, BETTER CONTRA 3 SOUNDS! but good luck recording the other ones.

we need a volunteer, but i can't help with the big sprites with contra-ish graphic such as it except small ones.

Okay, maybe I can help with the gun sprite, but it depends on wether someone can pixelize it or whatever to make it legit retro, or at least use it as a base to make a sprite.

Here's an example of the style o' the things I do:

Now, I can make sprites out of thousands of models, edit them, change colors or textures, fuse 'em together to make entirely new weapons altogether and all kinds of wonders to fit pretty much any request you might have about a little design detail, but I highly doubt they'd fit here, being 3D and all.
So, if there's anyone capable of making either a retro sprite out of something like the pic above or edit it to look like so, maybe I can help.

You're at least on the right track. The contrast looks fine with those, perhaps angle them downward a bit to be a little more consistent with a typical Doom centered weapon? Then all you gotta do is size it accordingly, tweak the edges and lines a bit with a pixel brush, apply hands, and there ya go.

and coloring it with only 16 bits will be an extra score.

Vriska, i'm amazed. I was just going to make a suggestion on using the SMG from the alpha version as a temporary substitute. Of course, it's damn ugly, but only until someone comes with a new machine gun, like you right now. :D

I edited some things on this mod. Nothing wonderful. Changed Cursor icons to the classical eagle, modified the title logo on the archive as the menu logotype, and As Yukes suggested, changed the DSSECRET Sound to the konami jingle.

The only things left are a good wallpaper for the title screen and one for the intermission pic.

I'm gonna test your sprite now Vriska. This is amazing!

Well thank you, while it's not the first time I work with sprites, it is the first time I turn a hi-res pic into something Doom-worthy. I actually had no idea what to do exactly, I just tested filters and indexed mode and this turned out good, I suppose.

This was the full-res thing, it actually had more details as you can see:

(On a slightly unrelated note, I only found pictures of what the gun flash looked like in Contra 3 after I made the Doom-styled one. :/)

Good work; although the gun flash is a tad too big, kinda obscures the Flamethrower stream.

I'm curious about why you made the gun black... Did the blue-ish color contrast too badly?
I just picked that color because I thought about the original contra gun's color:

But still, nice work pal! I like how to front of the gun is blurred when the flash is present, that's a cool touch.
It is true, however, that the muzzleflash is kinda big.

as an optional choice, i hope you can recolor it as a player sprite's one as well. with 16 bits if that's possible.
