But Gaben has no problem selling Manhunt or Postal2.

Got an AO rating so unless gaben steps in again this won't be coming to Steam. Should've stayed unrated.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
Hm, an AO-Game that didn't get this rating because of pornography. A rare sight.
Although I think there is hardly any difference between "M" and "AO". Like this one year makes the impact on the player such different.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
It's a lot more difference than one year. An adults only rating carries serious weight among publishers and retailers. Console makers won't give licenses to games with that rating, and most store fronts will refuse to stock them. Granted, in this age of online retail and digital distribution, the Hatred devs could just sell it on their own website, but that denies them the use of the Steam framework for content distribution.
Go look up the history of Manhunt 2 and the PC version of The Punisher, both of which got adults only rating at first.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
It seems like Manhunt had quite some trouble.
So basically, AO just exists so the game can't get distributed so freely?

I can't find a rating certificate, probably an attention stunt.

Think about all the R rated films that you can see in mainstream theaters. Then think about the number of NC-17 films. Then think about the sort of venues where you could see NC-17 films, the production values, and the content.TheBadHustlex wrote:Hm, an AO-Game that didn't get this rating because of pornography. AO is the kiss of death for a "serious" game. Your game is basically the video game version of a hardcore porn movie, with similar constraints on budget and distribution.

95% of all AO-Games actually are interactive (not necessarily hardcore)-porn-movies. Or screensavers.Woolie Wool wrote: AO is the kiss of death for a "serious" game. Your game is basically the video game version of a hardcore porn movie, with similar constraints on budget and distribution.
At least the ESRB doesn't force developers to censor their games in order to get an 18+ rating. Germany is awesome when it comes to that, because if the USK thinks that your game is too wrong, it won't even get any rating, which makes it 100% illegal to sell it there. So basically, it tells grown-up people what they are allowed to play, in terms of content.
This is very helpful for the austrian economy.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
I remember when I saw "Deutsch (Österreich)" while browsing for patches for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Germany's government has such a rod up its ass that they had to censor Morrowind?
BTW, does Austria get uncensored versions of Wolfenstein games? I mean I guess it's a step forward that TNO got sold in Germany but in the German version they can't even say "Nazi".

Germany loves censoring. FEAR, L4D1 & 2, Half-Life1 & 2, Counter-Strike, Dead Island...
I think nazi-stuff is the only things that gets censored in austria. Everything else is (if the developers care to release an uncut version in german, too) 100% uncut.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
It's surreal looking at a Steam page and seeing the AO+ rating label. These past few months have been WEIRD.

Re: Edge: The Game [Hatred]
I'm kind of hoping the "hype" dies down about this game once people start to realize that it (probably) isn't going to be that fun. I don't really have any qualms about what they want to make their game about, but for reasons of fun factor, I generally prefer that my "enemies" fight back once in a while.
