Real Gun Sounds For Hideous Destructor Updated 10/11/2014
This is an edit for Hideous Destructor
If you haven't played it yet, I STRONGLY recommend you do(with this mod, so download this and play my modified version of Vaecrius's wonderful mod,it's become one of my all-time favorite weapon-modification mods for Doom with it's ultra-realistic and tactical approach.
What makes this mod unique is that all the gun,(firearms;pistol, shotgun, double barrel shotgun, bullpup assault rifles[ZM66,Liberator Rifle] in the game the thunderbuster, and explosion sounds have been replaced with real sounds.
New or updated as of 11/11/2014 sounds are highlighted in blue.
Unintentional replacements(they fit anyway) as a result of changing weapon sounds are highlighted in green.
This edit contains much more powerful, crisp and actual real sounds for:
The pistol's sound(M9)
The pump shotgun's pump, fire, reload-half-rack, and shell-load sound(Remington 870 Rack, Itacha 37+Remington 870+M1014 altogether)
The supershotgun's fire and reloading sounds (Norinco Double Barrel)
The ZM66's fire sound(M4 Carbine)
The liberator rifle's fire sound(AK74M)
The chaingun's fire, spin up and spin down sounds(uses same sound as pistol...fits, M61 Vulcan)
The grenade launcher's fire, reloading, explosion and far/distant explosion sounds(M203)
All of the frag grenade's sounds including explosion and far/distant explosion sound.
The rocket launcher's fire, reloading, explosion and far/distant explosion sounds(M203, Insurgency M67 Explosion)
Shell casings bounce sound for shotguns, pistol(uses shotgun casing sound, please fix Vaecrius and make it use liberator's) and liberator rifle, ZM66's casings do not make any sounds for some reason.(Half life 2)
The thunderbuster's charge, fire, explosion and far/distant explosion sounds(arc welding wire crackling, lightning striking transformer+overloaded electronic exploding, Insurgency M67 Explosion)
Changing the double barrel shotgun's sound also changed the Brontornis's fire and reloading sounds.
Changing the thunderbuster's charge and fire sound also changed the cacodemon's blast, electro ball pass-by, and corpse crackle sound.
I guarantee you will LOVE the new explosion sounds
I truly believe that having better, more powerful and of course real sounds really makes the game
more enjoyable, fun and satisfying.
This is my first anything having to do with Doom so I apologize if it seems minuscule for a whole new post. But there are over 100 comments on the Hideous Destructor page and I doubt it would get read if I put this there.Fuck that, this sound mod is awesome and deserves a separate topic.
I may add more sounds as time goes on.
I will soon attach a youtube video demonstrating the new sounds.
To use, run with hd.pk7 adding hoodsnd.zip LAST. Heres what a batch file or shortcut would look like(without quotes) "gzdoom.exe hd.pk7 hoodsnd.zip"
Here is the download.
I have a new, better sound pack ripped from Insurgency:Modern Infantry Combat, go here.

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)
Whoa whoa whoa, what the Hell.
Buddy, you don't need to modify the IWAD to change the sounds. Hell, you SHOULDN'T modify the IWAD to change the sounds. And you shouldn't distribute the IWAD anyway, that's just flat-out against the rules here.

Extremely bad, i would say myself, since this is considered piracy. I know you didn't had the intention though, but please take this link off ASAP. This can be real bad to the whole board.

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)
Hoodlook, while your enthusiasm is appreciated, do not include Doom2.wad with your file. Move your modified sounds into your hd-modded.pk7 instead and they should still work.
This is completely false. Do not try to justify it; you are not the copyright holder for Doom 2 (id Software is), so including this file, even modified, is against our forum rules. We have a zero tolerance stance on this sort of thing, so please do not repost your mod unless you have removed Doom2.wad from it.README.txt wrote:Some may try and argue that including a doom2.wad would be
illegal because this is what you pay for when buying doom 2. However, I doubt
there is any active members on the ZDoom forums who don't already own this
file.

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)
My bad everyone sorry about that. Thank you wildweasel, I didn't know that I could just transfer IWAD sounds into PWAD's and have them still work.wildweasel wrote:Hoodlook, while your enthusiasm is appreciated, do not include Doom2.wad with your file. Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
Why do you need anything from the IWAD? I don't think I've got any sound resources with file names that overwrite those of existing Doom sounds?

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
The shotgun's pump sound by default used DSSGCOCK.lmp from the IWAD. But now I know that it can just be edited and included in the mod itself and will work that wayVaecrius wrote:Why do you need anything from the IWAD? Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
Wait, so this is an edited version of Hideous Destructor itself? Why not just put the new sounds in a file and load it with the actual thing?

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
...
Dude.
1. take a wave file
2. name it "dssgcock.wav"
3. put it inside a folder
4. put the folder inside a zip file
5. run the zip file as the last thing right after hd.pk7
6. hear that new sound whenever you rack the HD shotgun
It's a lot simpler than you're making it out to be.
(if 5 doesn't make sense read the manual)

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
Merely loading an audio file with a name identical to the file it's intended to replace suffices.

Everything has been sorted and figured out, no need to comment on my previous mistake.
Please just try out my new sounds.

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
I actually will probably do this. This makes it so people downloading my modified version could hear a before and after by including the original mod, and then a modded one as a totally different file.Vaecrius wrote:...

Uh, it still has a bunch of text files from the mod. You only need the sound files to replace the sound effects!Everything has been sorted and figured out, no need to comment on my previous mistake.

Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V2
Tried that, only ended up with a few sounds working, some didn't. It works fine the way it is. Choose either hd.pk7 to play the original or hd - modded.pk7 to play my edited version.TheMightyHeracross wrote:Uh, it still has a bunch of text files from the mod. Re: Hideous Destructor(modified sounds)V3
I'm just gonna be on record here as saying that I think a modded hd.pk7 like this - especially without a separate readme file conspicuously inside the archive explaining that this has been modded - is beyond the scope of what I had in mind to be acceptable when I wrote the above. It's a waste of bandwidth and hard drive space, tends to become obsolete within a week, creates room for confusion and just doesn't look clean.in hd.txt I wrote:To the best of my knowledge all resources used here are used in compliance with 29.21 of the Copyright Act of Canada; otherwise treat Hideous Destructor as a derivative work of Doom 2 (copyright id Software and any successors and assigns) with anything indicated below being subject to that understanding.
You may distribute the date-named zip file in Hideous Destructor unmodified for non-commercial purposes.
Code, modifications and other things that are my work may also be used in your projects. Attribution and giving me a link are encouraged and appreciated.
I can't try it yet, but I've got a copy of the modded file in which I:
- deleted everything except the sounds folder
- within the sounds folder, deleted everything with a "last modified" date earlier than September 30, 2014
If you do that with the file, then run
Code: Select all
gzdoom -file hd.pk7 hd_modded.pk7EDIT: It does, in fact, work just fine.
Why is the pistol like twice as loud and echoey as the rifles and the shotgun almost silent?
