I guess that the GUI for Doom series and Heretic/Hexen games need to be in HD. So, I've been working on that and the result are:

Good:
-HD Skull Icon for Doom Menu's
-HD Arrow Icon for Heretic/Hexen Menu's
-HD Fonts for sub-menus now are available on all games.
-HD BOSSBACK for DOOM 2 is now available
-HD yellow, blue and green keys for Heretic
-HD select item cursor for Heretic/Hexen
-HD inventory arrow for Heretic/Hexen
-HD Loading/Saving/Ethereal Travel icons for Hexen
-HD Paused icon for Heretic/Hexen

So So:
-HD Fonts for MAIN MENU (Only for Heretic and Hexen. Main Menu Doom series don't load the HD fonts by an unknow reason)
-HD CREDITS PIC for all games (For Doom 1 the credit pic are in low res yet)
-Some holdable items in Heretic and Hexen now are in HD. The others HD items are very ugly I think so I've deleted it.
-HD Chosing BOX pic for Parias Cleric in Hexen (For Baratus Fighter and Daedolon Mage HD versions are very ugly I think and I deleted it too)

Bad:
-INTERMISSION PICs don't work in Zandronum, GZDoom, ZDoom engines

Doom 1 HD Alternative Title: This is an alternative title, the other HD Title is too yellow I think, and this is more close to the original colors.

Doom 1 Main Menu: I can't load the HD Fonts in the Main Menu for an unknow reason, if somebody can help me with this I'll thanks a lot.

Doom 2 HD Alternative Title: The same thing of the Doom 1 HD Title, the original Doom 2 HD Title don't like much because this have digital noise (I think for the scanner effect).
So, I've searched and finally I put this wonderful HD title for Doom 2.

Doom 2 Main Menu: The same problem of the Main Menu of Doom 1, the HD fonts don't load.
If someone know how to load the fonts in Doom Series will great!

Doom 2 Credits: The only thing that I've changed is the pixelated id logo to a HD id logo.

Doom Plutonia Main Menu: Again, the HD fonts don't load.

Doom TNT Main Menu: Again, the same problem with the fonts.

Heretic Main Menu: This is very strange, in this case the Main Menu Fonts load without problems! If someone can explain me why in Heretic the fonts load and not in Doom series I'll thank a lot.

Hexen Main Menu: Again, the HD Fonts can be loaded in Heretic and Hexen main menu's, but not in main menu of Doom series, that's sad!

Doom's main menu stuff uses actual pre-built graphics instead of individual font glyphs, that's why your high res font isn't being shown. You'll have to replace the graphics.

Hm, Now I understand.

The problem is that the original code for Doomsday is a little different to be compatible with ZDoom.

And the other question is where I need to place the MENUDEF.txt file into the .pk3 ?

In the root?
Into the hires folder?
Into the graphics folder?

Menudef goes into root folder. Also, I have no idea what kind of code this is, but it sure as heck won't work with ZDoom.

Don't use MENUDEF because whenever ZDoom updates it (which can happen quite a bit) your mod will be unsynchronized. Also, any ZDoom mods that provide their own MENUDEF will overwrite yours completely.

As I said, all you need to do is replace the graphics Doom used for the main menu stuff. Here are a few in case you don't know where to look (in doom.wad and doom2.wad):

M_*** (example, M_NGAME, M_OPTIONS etc)
WI*** (WIPAR, WISUCKS, WIF, WIENTER etc)
CWILV** (all of them)

Might be missing a few others, too tired to think right now but you can easily find them on your own.

is there any way these could all be placed in a single giant pk3 mod that would automatically load the correct bitmaps depending upon the game? This would be much easier for the user than having to call a different pk3 for each game.

But I've showed in the top screenshots that all menus work fine.

Can you post a screenshot to show your problem?

What engine you used?

PS: The engine that I've tested was Zandronum 1.2.2
