That'll be on legally sketchy ground, unless it can be proven that no part of the sprite came from a commercial source.

I'm currently in the process of double-checking that no resources in the project look or sound like something coming from a commercial source. Also, if anything does, it's usually edited extensively to the point that it no longer resembles the commercial work. If all else fails, I either resort to either making the resource from scratch or using a royalty-free alternative.

EDIT: For example, that weapon is a mix between an edited fan-made Doom 3 Plasma Rifle, a scope from FPSBanana, and a muzzle, although I can't seem to tell where it originated from (likely fan-made too, as the only other time it's shown, it was on a Russian Overkill weapon, despite most weapons from there being model rips).

EDIT 2: Have a look at this Wolfenstein 3D clone. Although most of the content there was made from scratch, the enemies vaguely resemble those of Wolfenstein 3D and the game is still being sold on the App Store, without so much as a word from id Software for about 4 years.

This is no mere Dustbuster. 'Tis a Dustbuster 9000.

Does that scope come from anything commercial? If not, I may.

Some old death sprites I made for one of the NPCs from Ghostbusters Doom 2. These are really old and I'm only posting them here because I found them lying around on my HDD, just begging to be used by someone.

These were done in MSPaint which is why they're probably pretty crappy. The images should also retain their offsets since they're direct from the pk3 I had.
