Well, KDiZD is really good as re-telling of Doom's first episode, that's right. But there are people who.. well... they will look and say: "OMG! This room has more than 4 sectors! IT'S OVERDETAIL!!!111" That's how they "don't like" KDiZD.
But I think the reason of such "dislike" is simple: KDiZD isn't something that you can make in few days with DoomBuilder and Decorate. It's a big and solid thing. It's something more then just stupid mod with silly sounds, monsters and weapons from Realm667 and stupid humour. It's not a set of box-like maps with 10 Cyberdemons in the first room. And these "dislikers" just can't understand: how could someone make this? Or maybe they think: it cannot be! Some of them will cry that it's not Doom. Well, yeah, it's not Doom from 1994. It's Doom of present day.

As one of the developers of TSoZD and various other high-detail Doom projects... this is pretty insulting and you probably shouldn't try to tell other people what they think. There are plenty of perfectly valid reasons to criticize KDiZD.

My personal reasons for disliking KDiZD are because the gameplay tends to be sloggish, the layouts typically have no sensible flow (the result of poor or nonexistent planning during development), and even the visual design it's known for is actually quite sloppy and ugly in many of its maps. Its origins as an anything-goes community project are still very clear in the finished product. In perhaps the most egregious example, entire sections of levels were scrapped from one place only to be halfheartedly tacked onto another map, connected by a single door and made into required areas, solely for the sake of having it there in some form, even though it didn't fit.

Early on in TSoZD's development, we set out specific goals and guidelines for ourselves to avoid allowing the mistakes of KDiZD to creep into TSoZD's content. This is stuff that can't just be glossed over, and it's not irrational or stupid to dislike it. So, please, don't try to tell me why I dislike KDiZD.

it's not a BAD mod, by any means. but it's not the best mod there is, either, which, as far as i can understand, is what the hype made the mod out to be. that Tormentor were reviving the very essence of Doom or whatever (correct me if i am wrong here, i'm just assuming).

dragged out levels are one part of the problem of the mod. sloggish, rather poorly balanced fights is another, as well as the general confusing layout of everything. it's like playing Hexen, except you don't have a walkthrough for the thing.

that being said, i do think that KDiZD is something worth experiencing anyway. just, not going in there with a mindset of 'this is gonna be fucking epic'.

I hope the gameplay is as good as the level detail (i´m not a fun of alot of sector details but, i think it´s only me)
I want to see some dynamic maps on it *--* (like rocks going down, teleports comming from anywhere, buildings being destroyed...)
Well continue dud (or duds) I see a nice project comming (just hope it came before 21/12 day xD)

I'm going to stab each and every one of you people for getting my hopes up about an update on the project when it's just a couple of impatient bozos bumping the thread.

You should really expect this kind of thing to happen more often, though. :)

Sorry to bump, just wanted to say thanks.

Since discovering KDiZD I've loved everything about it and have showed to everyone I know who would even pretend to care. A lot of people seem to be bothered by the liberties you guys have taken in remake E1 but I'm really glad you did.

BLASHPEMY ALERT: I honestly like your version better. I've got some great memories running through E1 since I was a kid but you guys translated it to a modern feel wonderfully. I don't only like it better because it's newer or bigger or scarier than vanilla E1, I like it better because it's bigger and scarier than I REMEMBER E1. Speaking to a community that's modding a game old enough to buy booze, I think you all understand how potent nostalgia can be.

So even if you guys have dropped SoZd or have gotten discouraged, thank you for just making something so good for the people that really do enjoy it. Though I do hope you it's just not being updated on thread and you all are kicking ass on the progress. So thanks and good luck with whatever you're all doing now.

If I may...

Is TSoZD in development hell, or is it being continued on bit by bit? Even if the final product is "imperfect", it will be perfect in the sense that it was complete. If you guys need an extra man, I'd love to jump on to improve on level detailing.

Even if not, I would strongly encourage completion of TSoZD, if for any other reason, simply to achieve it's completion. The people will still desire ZInferno / Infernal ZDoom / ZDoomferno / Episode 3 remake / etc...

Finish what has begun. (I'm a simple kind of guy, so I found KDiZD to be TOTAL AWESOME, and I'll definitely find TSoZD, flawed or not, TOTALLY AWESOME. Even the greatest masterpieces have flaws. Go for it!)

I do find it interesting to realize that it's largely (entirely?) a different group of folks working on TSoZD than the ones who worked on KDiZD. Not that the compliments will fall on deaf ears, of course, since this is more or less the main hangout for all the big KDiZD team members.

Guess I'm curious too about this- even if I haven't really "cared" so much to hound anything...but that curiosity still stays! Anything new to show? C:
