Free use graphics

Post by greentiger »

Is there a repository for Doom-like projects for free use graphic?
Preferably ones that are not rips or infringing art?
If there's not one that's OK, I just wanted to create a doom engine driven game but I would like to use free use art.
I have looked at the Free Doom Project (which has odd looking sprites) and Blasphemer Project (which does not have much art).
Any help would be appreciated.

Going by your post, I think you're looking for something like this: http://opengameart.org/ rather than something like Realm667?
It's not necessarily stuff that's geared towards a Doom-type engine, though.

Demon Eclipse will, when completed, be a "free-use graphics" project (only applies to graphics I've made from scratch). However it is not completed yet - I'm guessing that doesn't really help your situation if you need graphics immediately.

Hacx is under the same "license". ;)

Odd--I didn't receive notice that anyone had replied to this thread.
I've never heard of the Demon Eclipse project or Realm 667--I will have to check that out.
I have looked at Opengameart but most of the sprites there are more useful for side scrollers, fighters, or RPGs (there are a few models thought hat could be made into sprites).

So Hacx assets are considered free use art? Or did I misunderstand?

Thanks!

Hacx's resources are free to use under the condition that the resulting product is also free -- it's a strictly non-commercial license, but otherwise okay to use.
