What qualifies an IWAD to be officially recognized?
What qualifies an IWAD to be officially recognized?
EDIT: I have a tendency to not be very clear what I mean by things. I was moreso asking what qualifies an IWAD to be an officially recognized IWAD.
Original thread title: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list?
I'm not making this a feature request, as the game's demo isn't even out. I ask this because TSAT is a standalone game (like Action Doom 2 or Harmony), and I was just wondering if the devs would ever be likely to consider adding it.

Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
It looks more like a TC to me. The screens suggest a lot of use of Doom textures and the Doom marine sprites, something which neither Action Doom 2 or Harmony do.
Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
It runs standalone already, and uses FreeDoom as a base. That, and the Doom marines are going to be replaced with new sprites soon. This won't be using any Doom or Doom 2 resources. (not counting the temporary marine sprites, till we can make some new ones) I'm not really sure what that qualifies TSAT as, a TC or new game?

I probably should have made myself clearer in the OP, but what I meant was "would a game like TSAT be considered to be supported as a standalone game by the time it's finished". I was kinda sleep deprived at the time I made the OP and wasn't even sure if it made sense, and now that I've gotten rested up, yeah, I realized that left that one important detail out.Nash wrote:Finish it first? Soda, maybe you should leave questions like this to me.

Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
If it won't have to rely on other wads/resources (this includes FreeDoom) then yes. But until then, it's a no.

Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
The plan was for it to be completely independent, yes. However, I (personally) wasn't exactly going to bug the developers to do something just for me for the ZDoom engine. That's just silly and selfish. If they were going to do it for this project eventually, okay, more power to me, but the devs aren't my slaves.
Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
I wasn't trying to bug the devs to do anything, I was just asking if TSAT fell under the same catagory as the other projects that are recognized IWADs. Hence why I put it in general, not the feature suggestions forum. Again, I wasn't trying to ask anyone to do anything, just asking about what qualifies something to be a recognized IWAD.
Anyway, I'll ask this instead, being clearer on what I meant. What qualifies an IWAD to be officially recognized by the engine?

Harmony uses sounds from FreeDoom, does that disqualify it?MG_Man wrote:If it won't have to rely on other wads/resources (this includes FreeDoom)

Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
Harmony is a new game with almost of its resources made completely from scratch by its creator. "There's Something About Tails" is a TC using FreeDoom clones of Doom textures (why not just use actual Doom textures?) and is based on Sega's IP.Sodaholic wrote:I wasn't trying to bug the devs to do anything, I was just asking if TSAT fell under the same catagory as the other projects that are recognized IWADs. Re: Could TSAT possibly be added to the supported games list
Because we want the game to be standalone. (one of the target audiences are the Sonic community, and it's not a 100% given that they would already have a copy of Doom, or know how to load mods)esselfortium wrote:(why not just use actual Doom textures?)
It probably doesn't matter though, I was thinking that we could release it with a very minimally modified GZDoom engine. The only difference being that it would have it's own icon instead of the Doom marine, and that it would automatically recognize the IWAD, so you don't have to bother loading it from a .bat file. Besides that, it would be identical to whatever latest SVN version of the engine exists at the time of it's release.
Though, since it's a PK3, wouldn't it technically be an IPK3 instead of an IWAD?

You want the game to be standalone, but you still want all the textures to look like the ones from Doom...

So you want to make a game without actually making a game?Sodaholic wrote:Because we want the game to be standalone.esselfortium wrote:(why not just use actual Doom textures?)

Soda, please stop making topics about this project.
