Doom Mutator Contest - Congrats alysiumX!

Odd, my old link still works. I didn't get to your message, internet was down for a LONG time.

Also vote for Any Level Invasion

Thanks, and thank you for the votes all :)

Ill link the original post for information.
I finally finished my entry! Its an invasion script using ACS and decorate so you can do invasion on almost any level! All you have to do is use this wad with your favorite doom level.

You start off by picking one of 4 classes :
-Plasma Fiend : Wield the plasma gun
-Kamikaze : Fist and Rocket Launcher
-BuckShot : Shotgun and Super Shotgun
-Medic : Chaingun and can heal people by providing stimpacks.

after that you going thru invasion waves, the first wave consist of just what is normally in the level, then it starts to double from there. Its currently defaulted at 6 waves but is changeable.

Another cool feature is Ive made the script extremely easy to edit. If you go into the ACS you'll see "Customizable Values" in there you can set the following features:
-Number of total waves.
-Which monsters respawn using a simple true and false value.
-And you can turn on Single Monster Mode(Spawns only one type of monsters for every actor) by specifying true for that value as well as providing the thing name from the list provided.

I also currently have it set so unless your on ultra violent, cyberdemons, masterminds, and arch-viles won't respawn.

Its pretty fun stuff, though it won't work for every level, any level that has a "boss" you defeat to end the level won't work, but maps like map07 of doom2 is still playable, though you get some weird oddities going on with the middle platform, shouldn't effect you too much if you don't mind not being able to exit and finishing invasion waves lol.
Over all I would say the idea really spawned from being able to make your own invasion maps by simply placing the monsters you wanted to spawn in certain locations. As a by product, it made it where almost any level that had monsters in it already would also gain this functionality.

As for the classes, they are something I threw in after the fact(arising from knowing the amount of ammo already in the level wasn't going to cut it). I was originally going to put in a system that would let you "Level up" Your weapons as you killed monster but it ended up being too complicated for this particular project.

Well that pretty much the inside scoop, thanks again for the votes all.

@cutman, this was a pretty unique contest, wouldn't mind see more like it, don't have anything off the top of my head thou.

Congrats!

I'd like to see more contests. It's yet another thing that makes people more interested in modding. Interest = doomslife++; :)

Now all we need is a cleaned up version that doesn't display ammo types on the weapons.... since they're not really using them. Only thing that bothered me about the mod.

Whee, congrats, I say! Invasion may not be my cup of tea, but it's very well done. Gotta love those any-level wads. :)

Start one, I say! I'd probably just submit something I've already done, but count me in regardless.

There's like 3 or 4 people who I can see entering that. Need something that almost anyone can join in on.

I can make MIDIs too (although I'm fairly inexperienced) :)

Hmm something that almost anyone can do.... hmmm uhhh, HEY! I know! A mapping contest! [/realoriginal]
It could be limited to strife maps. Heretic and Hexen both got its fair share of love recently.

Or perhaps another simple mutator contest, with similar rules. I'm pretty sure people haven't run out of ideas yet! ;)

I think it might be possible to host a MIDI composition contest. I'm sure there's enough people to participate. For instance, here are this forum's MIDI composers that I know of:
  • Me
  • Xaser
  • Zero Prophet
  • MasterOFDeath
  • Lexus Alyus
  • DBThanatos
  • FuzzballFox
  • Morpheus
  • Sonnyboy
  • Dancso
  • jute
  • guitar man
  • Infurnus
These forumers do music but I don't know if they've ever done original MIDIs:
  • leileilol
  • jallamann
  • esselfortium
  • Pink Silver
Elsewhere in the community you'll find more midi musicians like:
  • Mark Klem
  • Julian Aubourg
  • Paul Corfiatis
  • Kristian Aro
  • stewboy
  • TheGreenHerring
  • Ralphis
  • Wagi
  • EarthQuake
  • NiGHTMARE
So... yeah. :3:

I think a Strife mapping contest would be great.

I have one question about Any Level Invasion though: How do you limit the maximum number of enemies that are allowed to spawn in any given wave without ending that wave? (As in not effecting the total number of remaining enemies you need to kill to finish each wave.)

Is it just me or somebody else thinks that this thread should no longer be an sticky one? It's over already and any more info on this can continue as a regular thread. Im not a great fan of stickies everywhere.
