Goomba!
This is just something silly I made in fifteen minutes or so as an experiment. Still kinda fun.
Download!
In short, landing on an enemy's head kills them (usually, it does an assload of damage) and bounces you off ala the Mario games. This is done in a very hacky way, but it works well enough for a proof of concept.
KNOWN BUGS:
You constantly "stomp" on floors moving upwards.
You can "stomp" on inanimate things that don't die.
No new graphics or map, so no screenshot.

Re: Goomba!
Wow. This is bloody genius. XD
Hehe, had a hella lot of fun running through a few maps (Map27 and Map28 are great), trying to get 100% kills without firing a weapon. ;P
I figured I'd help a bit. I fixed both mentioned bugs -- you only bounce on actors set with +SHOOTABLE now, meaning decorations and lifts are no longer stomp-able. Watch out though -- you can still blast barrels, so tread carefully.
Kinsie, major props for this one! I smell potential.

Re: Goomba!
now that is an idea, ill have to try it, though id probably get killed like normal...XutaWoo wrote:Has anyone 100% nuts.wad stomp-only?
EDIT, i used turbo 256 since it lagged so much, but without firing any weapons this is how well i did *screened it as soon as i died, i did that much, mostly from infighting, give or take a few hundred from the time of death to the time i hit the screenshot key*
yeah i played in the lowest resolution to save on rendering, not that it did much

Re: Goomba!
If you're holding the jump button down as you land on an enemy, you'll simply jump off of it again without doing any damage or making any stomping sound.

Re: Goomba!
Nice work.
I'm not sure if this would be a bug, but if you were to use a weak weapon say the chainsaw and attack a zombieman (at the same time, continuously going forward), you can create jump noise when the zombieman goes into his death phase.

Re: Goomba!
Thanks, Xaser! Mind if I ask what you did to fix it?
Also, this trick has other applications. By taking the ACS out of the equation and changing the damage, this can be used to emulate ROTT's crushing damage (where you could crush people by landing on them).

This is a great idea, Kinsie! I'll have to test this out. And anything that emulates Mario or ROTT in Doom is a winner by me. :D

sv_aircontrol 1
That's what I use, along with sv_gravity 400.

Re: Goomba!
I literally lol'd when I opened this up and hit my first enemy. Noclip seems to provide some wierd effects for moving around too.
