Mini Mod Collection (latest release : blood)

Post by Lioyd_Irving »

Welcome to my Mini-Mod thread. I'll post one-feature wads regularly (or so). Don't hesitate to use them for your own mods, or just to toy around with them. And if you like them enough, you may even -lord!- play them. :o

Volume 1
Serious Sam-styled minigun featuring casings and heat.

Volume 2
Glock pistol (formerly 9mm) inspired by WildWeasel's Cold Hard Cash. Features smoke, casings, reloading and dual wield variant.

Volume 3
Assault rifle inspired by Justin Fisher's Al|ens TC. Smoke, casings, alternate fire.

Volume X
D3-ish machine gun, featuring smoke, casings and ammo-sensitive idle animation.

Volume X2 There's a story behind this one.
Another deliberately overpowered minigun. Usual features.

Volume 4
First shotgun in the collection, with Whittle's Duke3D-derived sprites. Usual features plus alt version.

Volume 5
A sawed-off shotgun, inspired by Blood and TimeSplitters. Usual features, plus (if you're interested) unusual A_GunFlash use.

Volume 6
A blood replacement, simpler than NashGore. Features a special blood code for Lost Souls and two "light" versions :
one designed to only change blood colors, the other to not mess with other monster replacements.

_Alt is a modified version of the weapon for "hardcore" coop wads, such as Invasion UAC and Drown In Blood.
Don't hesitate to report any bugs you find.

Looks good. I never knew where this sprites came from, but I like them.

My only complaint is this (about the sprites):
I am not a guy who knows much about weapons (less heavy weapons), but I do believe that all the shots that are fired from a minigun are fired from each cannon* when the concernig cannon is in a specific position. I mean, you should not see a muzzle flash coming from the cannons at different positions.

Am I right on this? if so, could the sprite be edited? as it is now, when you are firing, it doesnt look very smooth because of the distactive position-changing muzzleflashes (offtopic = same thing with the regular quake1 super nailgun).

*assuming "cannon" is the right word

Yeah, I've seen the sprites myself, and judging by what I've seen the next barrel starts firing as soon as the other finished. In fact the muzzleflash grows, and then shrinks, while remaining on the same barrel. It's pretty hard to explain, but I think you'll get it.

Edit: I realized that I forgot the obituary string for the multiplayer modes.
It's fixed("%o was Seriously blown away by %k's Minigun.")but the DL isn't updated yet.
So if you want to use it for your own mods, don't forget it. :)

Edit 2: Yes it is up to date now.

My bad: I edited on that muzzle flash as LWM's original flash didn't convert very well to the Doom palette, even though it lit the barrel properly vs. my edit (Source for the weapon is Bittersweet).

The reason for the edit was for a mod I did circa the 2.0.96x era, which I decided to redo summer last year, which still has the minigun which is extremely similar to the one Lloyd has done.

One thing I will say, though, is use A_PlaySoundEx for looping sounds.

Personally, I don't use it when it's not necessary. Since the actor isn't too complicated, I just need two channels instead of a lot. :)

Speaking of which, do you know which channel is used for the See/Death/Attack sounds ? Thanks.

A_PlaySoundEx (string soundname, string channel [, bool loop [, int attenuation]])

Personally, I kinda prefer the sound I've got right now. As if the barrels made a "whoosh" sound as they rotate. :)

These are pretty cool weapons, that 9mm pistol is quite neat.

The minigun is neat. Although on serious sam it DOES have a tiny spread.

Even though you can take down a beheaded kamikaze ten miles away with only two bullets. :p
