This is good. I tried the sector_setcolor command. it partially works, but it blocks other colors making the monsters and other objects look odd.

eyeballed from a vid on youtube...

PS: don't even think that I'm an experienced mapper

Speaking of, someone should totally rip the nightmare specture (if it's a different sprite, bit hard to tell) and the gib HUD face graphics.
As far as I can tell, the Nightmare Spectre is simply an inverted grayscale Demon sprite with a black/blue tint. I might have a crack at faking this with a translation table.
In the PSX Doom engine, this is actually done with two thing flags in the map editor - one to make the thing transparent, and one to make it inverted and stronger. Kaiser posted a screenshot on Doomworld a good while ago of a pack of transparent imps on one of the PSXDoom maps.

Well I bought it but I can't find an emulator that can do both things.

1) Display the correct resolution for ripping.
2) Load doom past the title screen.

ePSXe emulator. You'll have to google the bios. You'll need the bios to run it. The bios is illegal to download for free, but with some searching you'll find a couple of sites around... 8-)

Going back to the PSX SSG, I actually like it a lot better for some reason. The muzzle flash isn't as cool, but I like how the body of the barrels look.

Also its a shame that the PSX fire sky cannot be ripped :(

Huh.. I was going to rip the ssg but it looks extremely pixely compared to that screenshot shown earlier... are final doom's graphics improved?

I'm not sure. You know the maps were downgraded quality-wise. Maybe the supershotgun also became downgraded? I have never played final doom myself on psx.

Here you'll see the ssg in action. Great sound.

The rocket launcher fires at a lower speed as well.
The chaingun also fires slower I think. Plasmarifle too.

It seems they are... Dammit now i'll have to find final doom cheap too.

Edit: I managed to get a full shot of that fire sky but it seems that there's no way to loop it perfectly. Maybe it's just a REALLY LONG animation but I recorded at least 80 frames and it didn't seem any of them were identical.

Check out the HELLSKY.WAD included in Chris Neilson's Psxdoom.pk3. Should be something in there. Sky is set using mapinfo as well.

Yes, indeed there are alot of frames.

texture sky_f001
pic 1 tics 3
pic 2 tics 3
pic 3 tics 3
pic 4 tics 3
pic 5 tics 3
pic 6 tics 3
pic 7 tics 3
pic 8 tics 3
pic 9 tics 3
pic 10 tics 3
etc...

Can something like this be used for the psx fire sky?
