GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!

Talonos Is Back!
Pipe down, you're jumping the gun here. He hasn't made a post since November, what if he is merely browsing the forums again, but chooses to remain uninvolved? What if he's washed his hands of the project, never to be involved again? You see, this isn't necesarily good news at all. Besides, wouldn't it be more prudent for him to announce his own return?

Just from the post Solar quoted, I can already tell this is not a useful bump.

I myself noticed Talonos was back, but I didn't bump the thread. As solar said, he could just be browsing the forums. Besides, I highly doubt the only reason the project died out was because he was gone; the participation level among several users was severely low, and unless he comes back or another person seriously interested in leading the project comes along, I think it'd be best to simply leave this thread for dead.

Well, this is Lord Mattus we're talking about here, I wasn't expecting anything particularly useful, though I too have seen Talanos on the forums (DRD too).

I'd love to work on this project again, what with everything that's already been done.

It's such a shame that we don't have a leader. That really is all we need...

(I doubt I could be relied on to do it)

<Comes wandering back.>

Hello. My Name is Talonos, and I'm a doom addict.

<Droning voices> Hi, Talonos...

I thought that I could keep up with both the demands of ZDCMP2 and school, but I was wrong. I'm taking AP statistics, I'm in charge of the senior directed play, I'm running 2 D&D groups, I'm working weekends to save up money for college, and I'm studying the scriptures to prepare myself for a two-year full-time religious mission. That, and I have the normal course load of my classes to boot.

I decided I couldn't keep up with doom. It was too cool; I was addicted. It was eating away at homework, my play, and other things I really should have been doing. I finally, and regretfully, made the decision to leave and not come back until the summer.

But, as Tormenter said when he tried to leave, "Once a doomer, always a doomer."

So I found free for a few hours one weekday and thought to myself "How are things doing back on the forums?" I check back, receive two PMs from people who saw my name in the first hour, and feel guilty for the rest of my time. I come back, check on the ZDCMP2, and all I see celebrations and wild speculations about my return. I feel I need to set things straight.

So what's up with ZDCMP2? It appears to have died. However, it's died before, and that didn't stop it from getting worked on. A phoenix has a life cycle; it dies, going up in a burst of flames, and from the ashes, a new phoenix is born. First, Tormenter lead the project. Then, It died. Then, Risen led the project. Then, it died. Then I lead the project, and it died again. Does this mean it's cursed? Will it never be finished? I don't think so. Each time the cycle repeats itself, we get new talent and new inspiration to add to the improvements of the past. It will never die permanently until everybody gives up on it.

Now we come to a choice. Will the phoenix rise again? And if so, when?

I can lead the project again probably starting sometime around the end of May, if you still have any trust left in me. If not, I don't blame you. I've led your hopes on a roller coaster ride of frenzied progress followed by long periods of inactivity and disappointment.

If you guys want, you should elect a new leader. Is Biff still around? If so, I'd nominate him. He's done a whole ton for the project, and he certainly has the discipline and organizational skills needed to bring this project back.

Or you could clip the phoenix' wings and let it die forever.

But I don't think any of us want that to happen.

I'm going back into hiding, now. the AP test is next month, the play has been cast and is scheduled to go up the 20th of May, and Life goes on.

I'll be back at the end of May.

If I can keep myself away that long.

If zdcmp2 is canned, then you know what to do.

Release what you've gotten so far! Don't be like the many of other people who can their projects and not provide what was there! I know you can do that for us at least.

The last thing I, as a team member and as a fan of the original ZDCMP, want, is to see this canned. I would love to contribute again, but I don't have the sort of qualities required to lead. I'm much happier to be given a job, not make one.

Perhaps we can wait a while longer. Once this school year is over for me I've got a lot of free time (which a lot will be happeining in obviously), but until then I should focus on passing my GCSE's to the best of my ability.

Bottom line - I'd love to work on this, but preferably not until later.

He's defintely still about, I've recently had a PM off of him. I don't think he wants to lead anymore than I do, but I'm not 100% on that.

My guess is that he's just not that active ATM, that's all.

I didn't spend all that much time reading through this thread, but it seemed like he was leading for awhile to me.

He mainly fixed bugs when we couldn't get the maps to work for whatever reason (sometimes my computer killed the whole editing process), but he also mapped for one of the sections (Hell) and I worked with him on sorting out the hubbing. Plus he did quite a lot of managing the resources and piecing bits together. Oh, he also provided technical help and worked out script distribution over levels so that he and I could make the hubs work to the standard they did before hand. Then of course he put forward some suggestions and threw in votes where needed.

Yeah, he was practically leading for a while, particularly near the end when he and I were tying up hub structure and finishing off our sections.

I could write up a list of things that need work on, as I have the whole set and am familiar with it at the moment, but it would be to little avail if this project didn't have some more team members(Consider me part of the team for now, even if I am the only active one).

EDIT: Actually ,where Lord Mattus comes into play and various other things I no longer have a clue if I have the latest or not. I just went on the ftp, and I'm considering Biff's stuff as the 'official' latest wads, so Now I certainly do have the latest. I wish these things could be more organised.

When (if?) it comes to it, I'll play through and make sure Biff's is up to date in accordance with the logfile.

This project does need a good leader, maybe Tormentor or someone else could take up the task? Also there's been a TON of great work put into this wad, I don't want to see it die, in fact, I'm sure there's some people here who also don't want to see it die.

Yes, I too agree that this should not die. All the hard work would be for nothing if this dies. I don't think neither of us would like to see this happen. Someone has to take the place of Talonos until he gets back. Though I don't think Tormentor is going to take charge because there are still many projects that he is doing (in progress), which is quite a lot in my book. If he wants to, that'll be more than great. After all, he is the one who started ZDCMP1 and KDIZD.

I see two ways of doing this:
1) This project could start back on its feet after Talonos returns. He said he would return in late May, which is not very long duration of time (IMO). So, we could wait, or...
2) Get another person who can lead this project until Talonos returns. One who is willing to do this job and who have experience. I suggest one of the "staff members" of this project. If I have to vote, I choose Biff.
