[98] Keys Cheat Bug Gives Non-Strife Keys

Post by Deathlike2 »

This problem extends to the "Give All" console cheat.

Another cheat bug post.. I know..

The title is self-explanatory. It seems to gives keys from literally every non-Strife game...

For the reference, the keys cheat is "JIMMY"

I could say some hardcore doomer something, but I won't. If you payed attention the only cheat bug randy has bothered with you've posted is the IDBEHOLD bug, which was super easy anyway because any port that allows standard doom cheats (read: not Vavoom) has the proper coding for it easily findable (in the original source the files are m_cheat.h and m_cheat.c IIRC). Hexen and heretic bugs are slightly more difficult to fix, but not much, however Strife bugs are very difficult because, get this, we don't have source code for Strife. Besides, I wan't 2.1.0 before I die, and not things like stupid cheat bugs and inane feature suggestions holding it up.

Why shouldn't it give them all? Surely the clue is in the command name? Having included keys from other games in my mods, I'm happy that it does this. Cheats are primarily for testing purposes. If you really need to get a Strife key without getting a key from another game too (can't really see why this is a problem if all you are doing is testing) then summon it or give the individual key using the console.

If Randy copies the enhanced key code from .96x the bug will be gone. That code handles this better.

Agreed. If I were building a Strife map which used a key from another game type, I would fully expect it to be given to me with Give All. If it wasn't, I'd file that as a bug.

I guess the change should be limited to the cheat code itself (not the "Give All" command)...
