Haha, I used to carry around 50 CDs, Then I got a 15GB MP3 player.
No more crappy CD-switching for me!

Yes, an MP3 player would be great... but I don't think my friends would aprove of me messing up their tidy houses by re-arrainging their furniture to plug my MP3 player into their sound systems... CDs are far more convinient... and you can't really DJ with an MP3 player... at least, not without cheating...

The #1 reason that CD are better than MP3s: Higher sound quality. If you burn music to a normal audio cd you get the same amount of play time whether you burned 256kbps MP3s or 1000Kbps WMAs. I burn MP3s to data cds so I can put 100+ songs on there (and yes, still listen to it in my cd player).

I don't know if you read any of that... The main reason: Quake is a different game after every installation. There may not have been much of a story, but besides that, has any quake had a single enemy from the last one? Q3 wasn't even a single player type game and therefore not even worth my time :roll:

How would you feel if someone told you how to make something better suited for their tastes when you're making something? Hmm?
IMO, if you actually buy it, only then do you have a right to complain, but only if the product was changed in a reasonably big manner in a patch that wasn't out when you made the purchase.

If they told me what I had to do I would feel annoyed.
If they suggested what I could do to improve I would consider.
Either way, the would be worth thinking about.

You can't take suggestions from morons. If that is the way they compose e-mails, then I probably wouldn't even try to read it. If I did have something doing that well I would try to listen to as many as possible. Of course it wouldn't be possible to make each and every miniscule change, but if there was a lot of people with the same idea/suggestion/whatever then it would be smart to give it priority.

Heh, fair comment. But actually, that's one of the things that always bugged me about Quake - I always thought it felt like a poor imitation of Doom - right from the first moment I played the Shareware Demo. As far as the game experience goes, it didn't add anything to what Doom had already done and the things it tried to do weren't as good as the equivalent things that Doom had already done. (All from a gameplay POV, not tech.)

All Quake did was offer up the next generation of technology. The guys involved have acknowledged that their plans for Quake were significantly compromised in order to get it out the door, so that id could be the first to showcase that kind of engine. I know that could probably be said about many games (including Doom), but my feeling is that Quake was severely crippled as a game because of that rush. I also feel that, as a result, it was just a pale imitation of its predecessor and Quake was just a dull, uninspired, tried and tested, re-interpreted safe formula wrapped up in a new engine. A shame and a wasted opportunity. :(

It did, yes. Quite an in depth one at that. That's one of the things that had almost all evidence of it removed due to the rush I mentioned above. Quake was given as a title to the game that id Software was working on shortly after the release of Doom 2. The earliest information released described Quake as focusing on a Thor-like character who wields a giant hammer, and is able to knock away guys by throwing the hammer (complete with real time inverse kinematics). Early screenshots showed medieval environments and dragons. The plan was for the game to have more RPG-style elements. However, work was very slow on the engine, since Carmack not only was developing a fully 3D engine, but also a TCP/IP networking model (Carmack later said that he should have done two separate projects which developed those things). Thus the final game was very stripped down from its original intentions, and instead featured gameplay similar to Doom and its sequel, although levels and enemies were closer to medieval RPG style rather than science-fiction. Praised throughout the gaming community, it quickly dethroned previous FPS titles and revolutionized the way multiplayer games were developed.

I have an mp3 CD player, which is sort of like an mp3 player, but with CDS OMG!!11!

If I can fit my playlist on a CD, it's fine by me.

I have a 30$ mp3/CD player and it SUCKS. The antiskip emulates shock on its own and hardly ever goes past one bar of buffer. Hell, I can put a brand new shiny disc in it and it'll skip/pause every 10 seconds for a minute. It's REALLY annoying. It's a Durabrand MP3/CD player(Which coincidently, their CD players work EXCELLENT. Once they add MP3 support though, it totally screws itself. )

I have an iRiver mp3 player which is pretty neat. It can tune in to radio, play mp3's, record from its mic and record from an line-in port.

The downside - mines only 128mb :(

Heh, my sony mp3/cd player works great :P

I would get an ipod, but they haven't gone down in price here since their release, which is damn annoying.

I have a Watson mp3/cd and it was really cheap. When I have it in my pocket it only skips when I'm running. When I have it in my backpack it hardly ever skips.

Quake has unique gameplay. Period. Doom is something completely different. You can't even compare the two when it comes to DM. Quake's SP also has it's fair share of 1337ness which comes mainly from monster reactions and engine physics. The only problem I have with Quake is that it's shit easy to play, even on Nightmare.
