OPTIONAL FLAG! 16 ROTATIONS

Post by ant1991331 »

Would this work? I've herd of people talking about 16 Rotations, and this flag will be: +XTRAROTATIONS
So that you can make a thing that can use 16 rotations whenever :mrorange:

name the sprites as follows:

XXXXA1
XXXXA9
XXXXA2
XXXXAA
XXXXA3
XXXXAB
XXXXA4
XXXXAC
XXXXA5
XXXXAD
XXXXA6
XXXXAE
XXXXA7
XXXXAF
XXXXA8
XXXXAG

Of course you´ll have to change the XXXX to whatever your sprite is named.
The first A after the X´s only tells, that it´s the sprites first frame.

16 rotations...

great if they're already done, but it sounds far too much like hard work to me, you'd have to get each rotation right, make it all look smoothly animated, and do twice the drawing. (If you're spriting like me)

RTFM

Also note that no flag is needed. You simply need to have the 16 correctly-named sprites, and Zdoom will do the rest.

Also also note that this has been available for several years, at least.

People just don't know about it because there's no examples out there due to people being too lazy to make that many rotations in the first place.

The best examples are in Mouse's Chosen (Obelisk, Plane) and Wolfen (chairs)

There's also a long article on 16 rotations on Enjay's site!

BTW - this feature is useful if you use pre-rendered sprites. Certainly NOT for the average sprite artist though!

(Except maybe Metal Slug's sprite artists)

Try it, you'd notice the enemies use 16 rotations.

I've both played and modded for it and as far as I can tell, every sprite has a maximum of 8 angles.

The monsters only use 8 angles, I can practically promise you that. (I don't know for certain, I'm about 80% sure)
