Extra Lives for GZDoom!

Hi, everyone! This is my very first mod, so please feel free to critique, provide feedback, suggestions, report bugs, etc ^_^ (Please be gentle if possible, though :3)

This is a mod that adds an option for lives, and includes a configurable number of starting lives, as well as a UI element to display the number of lives remaining, along with some cheeky messages here and there :)

23 Jan 2023 - Fixed a bug where pressing use when not dead would spam the player :)
14 Jan 2023 - Update! I added code that will prevent the "press use to start the level over" thing :) However, it required a bugfix in GZDoom itself (https://github.com/ZDoom/gzdoom/commit/ ... 434d6e9da3), so it won't work until that fix is incorporated into your build (which means, probably, GZDoom 4.11 or 5.0, whichever comes first, unless you use a dev build or compile GZDoom yourself). BUT, the ZScript part of the fix is already in the mod, so as soon as GZDoom updates, it should work for you :D

This is a pretty nifty idea! Only thing I'd point out is that the resurrection process gets bypassed if the player presses use. Side note, think it'd be possible to make an Ultra-Nightmare mode with this? Like some kind of setting that makes it so you start at the beginning of a WAD if you run out of lives. Might be outside the scope of this, but just a thought =:)

Basically, something that forces the player to start over and doesn't give them time to enter cheats or anything like that? ;)

Hello, I found some bugs (latest GZDoom):
- Can't load game after save.
- A weird message say "...d think it would be that easy, player" pop-up everytime you press E against walls.

I finally got around to playing with this some and I tested it out in Sunder of all WADs. I really love the more old school, arcadey feel of this mod. Slap Lazy Points or Avarice Coins into the load order as well and you can easily turn any WAD into an arcade-like score attack. :D

Really nice mod. Simple but effective. <3

It be neat this mod had a few minor features
like able to edit the hud like able to resizes it, and make the hud transparent or solid,
and kill point score amount, to able to gain more lives.
Example, gain 1,000 or 10,000 points, or 50 kills or 100 kills, etc etc for a extra life.

I'm not sure what you mean by reference. But use it however you like. I prefer you give me credit somewhere, but I won't go so far as to require it :)

Nice mod. Is there any chance to a have feature where players respawn where they are spawned at the beginning instead of respawning at the same location where the player died? Because its not great respawning at the same spot that is filled to the brim with monsters. Also I cannot load the save game either as another user pointed out, this happens when I leave the game and starting the game again, and the workaround for this is by starting a new game and then loading the save game.

would be cool if you add a continue? and a 10 seconds counter like in metal slug, and when you press a certain button, you start with 5 lives again
so with this you can build an arcade doom

I was also missing the 'respawn at the start of the level', but there is a workaround.
First don't use the patch (so pressing 'use' still resets after dieing). This means also delete the lines at +- 125 in the pk3 , otherwise you will get a boot error.

Then save the game at the start. Now when you die wait untill you resurrect (minus one life). Now die again on purpose and then press the 'use' button. This will take you back to your saved position, but with one life less in total.
