That'll work fine, and also since some other settings don't have sensible defaults even beyond personal preferences. Later on though the idea of a player class default might be worth consideration, maybe. Anyway thanks.

This will just bring us back to the original problem anyway. Do note that the default name is not Corvus, nor Karl, nor any of those other people. It is "Player". It references the person behind the screen, not the character. This is particularly important in multiplayer contexts, where the likelihood of everyone using the same class is near 100%. Defaulting to the gender of the character just makes zero sense in this context. It will also, again, just end up being incorrect for a huge amount of players.
The onboarding screen should be the sole thing required, and until then universal pronouns can be used. There is no need to complicate this any further beyond that.

I assume this is OK, seeing as how the logo is on social media...
I have to admit - this looks pretty sharp:

Spoiler:Good job Cardboard Marty.

The player name could also be set to a default value in the same manner I was suggesting prior, so you'd see "Blazkowicz killed himself." or "Rayne killed herself." instead of "Player killed herself". The end user would still get to override both. Also I despise being called "them".andOlga wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 12:28 pm This will just bring us back to the original problem anyway. Re: What’s Happening With UZDoom?
I know a lot of people have been having issues accessing the site/forums for a couple of days, but the logo was indeed officially revealed! I'm really happy to have been chosen for this and am excited for this new chapter in ZDoom. I posted the logo along with the many, many concepts I did for it on bsky/Twitter.
Re: What’s Happening With UZDoom?
I noticed comments on Doomworld about difficulties accessing the forum. I wonder what's causing it? I saw that there was a suggestion that it might be related to the Chrome family of browsers. I usually use FireFox but it's also been fine on Chrome, Edge and Opera for me.
The logo looks good - particularly in the dark version of the launcher like I posted. I'm less keen on how it appears on the light version - but that's a comment for the appearance of the launcher overall rather then the logo. I'm not actually sure how (or even if) you can swich between appearances. All I know is one build I got from GitHub was dark, the next one was light. I think one was from the 4.14.3 branch and the other from the trunk though, so that might be it.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the modern flat icon style that so many programs have these days and I would have preferred the full colour version as the icon myself, but I totally get why the "flat" style was chosen. I did find it interesting that the icon uses a subdued cyan-teal-like colour ( #237887 or 35, 120, 135) but the progress bar in UZDoom itself is a much brighter cyan (#2EEDFC or 46, 237, 252 according to a screenshot I took). I wonder of the progress bar might be better in a colour closer to the icon colour for consistency? It just struck me as very bright compared to the relatively subdued icon.
[edit2: Something that I've been noticing about the logo that I didn't spot initially - but I like - is how it has a slightly weird 3D effect that is different at the top and the bottom. I'll try to explain. The angles at the bottom and the little cut outs make it seem as if you are looking into a box with the smaller U at the back (easier to visualise if you hide the top. However, the top of the logo appears the other way around - as if the corner of the box is towards you. So, as your eyes pan up and down the logo, things seem to shift like an MC Escher-like illusion. It adds a weirdness (in a good way) that I quite like.]

Spoiler:[edit: Oh, I've just seen all the alternative concepts. FWiW, I think the one chosen is the best, althout the ones with U and Z in them are good too (and further from the Unreal logo).]

Late AF to the party, but regarding the chicken man's leadership style, I say "good riddance to bad rubbish".
Mind you, this isn't intended as an insult to Zahl's contributions, which are legion and deeply critical to how we got to where we are now, nor is it intended to impugn on his character. I just don't miss his barely-contained contempt for the people improving the engine and the modders using it, is all...and that's trying to keep my take as diplomatic as I can.
Long live UZDoom-- may it flourish and continue the ZDoom legacy for a long time yet.
As for the logo...it's spiffy as it sits, though were I making the call I'd probably just go for a green "UZ" version of the longtime ZD/GZ/LZ/QZ logo series for continuity's sake. But that's just me. Y'all picked a solid one to go with.
