I am playing with Second encounter in a different source port. I'll post it in audio/graphics updates soon if things go well. But not nearly as ambitious as translating levels.

The saddest is those old wads have been ported to so many platforms including gzdoom, but their compatibility layers keep breaking. The plan for me is to use the originals with a few modern patches I found for sets and otherwise play them raw and bugged. They are amazing even in original form.

EDIT: I assume you are speaking of WolfenDoom, not some archaic Mac thing.

I did recently see the Mac version of Wolf 3D ported to PC. It looked awful to me besides that it has elements of Doom and I see how Laz Rojas actually came up with WolfenDoom.

Seems the guy never got back to you so I looked it up to understand what the map refers to. I do know that Laz Rojas published ultimate challenge unofficially for Mac, probably needed as ID never released the mission packs for Wolf 3D on Mac.

I'd never heard of it so sought further clarification on Google:

The WolfenDoom stuff I've been working on is also for PrBoom Plus, just a natural thing when lacking the ability to update to newer code for modern source ports.

This is the release that the thread above seems to claim releases the Spear of Destiny episodes 2 and 3 that include The Ultimate Challenge. But as far as I can tell, has literally nothing to do with a Doom port they mention, besides that it is a claimed modern release of the Spear expansions.

However, underneath on this website it states:

2001 re-release

Multiple versions of the 2001 re-release contain only Wolfenstein 3D. The packaging for this release still references the bonus Spear of Destiny game; however, the game is not actually on the disc.

Last I chatted with AFA Doomer, he said that the level converter (Map converter) should work with his newer version of the TC he made as he ensured compatibility. I used it WAY back in the day before everything was bug free and had to edit the original levels to get everything going.

Custom push walls were only possible when they were 3D models and you needed to actually wrap a skin half way around it. Since then the pushwalls and regular walls were the same.

Custom ceilings. It is up to you and your own ability to mod things to create custom ceilings and floors. In my HD conversion from 2021 I simply used the same ceiling and floor for the entire level set so there'd not be blank colors. Some day I may make a ceiling for every colored one that exists, but that means the entire level has only 1 ceiling regardless. I've not tested/experimented the new TC to know if I can even convert everything in my mod to the newer TC version beyond 2016 which I quite like, the one from his original website.

Point is, I've no idea what will work and what won't with floors and ceilings on the new TC version. But I assume it is the same. This TC has always been no frills and simply does what it needs to do in order to make the original game playable, and the converter is pretty much the same.

If you are clever with a hex editor, you can convert level sets that have custom names and other things that throw it off when converting the levels.

So I actually played this mod enough to understand the floors and ceilings. That is cool.

I'm commenting again as I was basically ready for release (complete remaster/redo of my old project in about a week or 2) besides porting the graphics over to this version of the mod, as my HD remaster is for 2016 Consolidated TC still. Great mod, but not perfect emulation. I really like this new version alot, but it has many conflicts. I can probably solve them all except one.

HUD weapons can't be in HD and it would require code rewriting, which is where I gave up. According to AI at least, the previous version using Decorate had more liberty to give me what I wanted. I barely kept this mod transfer going by creating a VGA remastered version and using GzDoom to filter it some and make it look more HD. Pales in comparison to what I had in the Consolidated version, but not severe enough to completely cancel the transfer to the new mod version. I had just barely massively updated the weapons and they actually looked good for once. Oh well, LOL. Vanilla weapons will never look great, but they did look good for what they are.

I wanted to know if there is a way (mod) to play Wolfenstein 3D PC original on ecwolf or zdoom TC but with the jaguar version assets (sounds/sprites)

You can replace any assets with anything else.

The newer version of the TC has some Jaguar assets in the fullscreen mode I believe. I've mostly completed transferring my Wolf 3D HD into it but have more life crisis stopping completion. I mostly just need to rename frames. I've also redone all the assets and made the HD version much higher end.

The weapons in MAC Second Encounter are integrated into the TC but aren't used at all in the original level sets. Which graphics you want to change I don't know. WDC, from what I understand, works with the original assets. Unless you are trying to figure out how to rip Jaguar assets from that version of the game, what you need is to edit the TC itself which I recall being both PK3 files with .wad files built in.

Now I believe the enemy graphics are more like the mac version, which is incompatible with the TC, where they only face the player like the bosses do. Even those could probably be changed to where all the frames face forward in a way that makes sense, but when roaming the enemies would be going backwards sometimes, facing you and not seeing you.

Unless you want to change the logic of the TC, you don't need to change the coding and you just replace frame names with what you want. I do recall there being other projects in the past with Jaguar graphics, but it wasn't interesting to me personally so I don't recall what those are, and it likely wasn't with this TC.

I never edited the original wad files and instead I use the PK3 structure to write over the assets by making my own custom PK3.

I am by no means an expert on the coding of the TC, but I do basically understand things from my time with programming in the 80's and playing with Doom source ports the last 20+ years, but I haven't edited code since around 2010 except weapon coordinates for HD versions, which doesn't work in the newer version of this TC sadly.

Just saying, I'm mostly just a "Hey cool, I casn replace this frame with my own graphics" kind of guy.

I just found this update! The intro is very nice looking.
I had the same trouble I had a few years ago (November 22, 2022), where the GAMEMAPS files from our old cdrom didn't pass the mod's checks. What can be done to add them?

Is there any more to be done with this, or have you moved on to other projects?

I was wondering where those files came from on my own system. It could have been an unpatched version of the original files, and that caused the failure. Getting a GoG copy of the game would probably work. Or Steam.

The Author, we haven't seen his response in awhile but it could just mean he doesn't frequent the forums without a reason. From what I have seen so far, this version of the TC is much more feature complete and works better with modern GzDoom in many ways than the original 2016 Consolidated TC my own HD update still supports until I unload the recent progress.
