Nightmare Logic IV

Post by Dr_Cosmobyte »

"Maman,

Remy"

Another suicidal mission. Another Nightmare.
People used to think wars were about a conflict of interests led by ethical standards,
honor, code, morals, courage, freedom, or reasonings in order to achieve peace.

Why fool them?

The war machine was fed with millions of bodies ever
since humans learned intimidation methods against its own kind.

But, you are one of those soldiers that has a chance to thrive through it all.

===========================================================

This is my 20th gameplay mod, and my 28th contribution to the community so far.

Doesn't hurt to say it again, but this mod is also compatible with Hexen and Heretic, right out of the box.
Load this with all your favorite monster packs and maps.

In this chapter of the Nightmare Logic series of mods, you are Remy Baptiste, a french soldier in World War One, losing his mind,
his innocence, his dignity, and his will to fight in vain for a war with no winners.

I think this may have something to do with new GZDooms or just might be exclusive to me, but the menu seems to be all pitch black, and i have to blindly enter the game to get it to work, i have not a single clue how or why this happens. Maybe some config settings are messed up on my end, but reporting it just to be safe.

Yessss I've been wanting something like this for ages. This ought to go great with Sepia.

[ETA] Well, other than that they're not affected by the palette.

Yes, all my mods suffered with this during the year. Chrck out my latest posts on the Dino Crisis 2 Weapons thread for some suggestions.

I just played this with the battle mace and "Iron Snail" monsters, it works well! Very fun weapons that feel nicely balanced.

The map background is very bad for reading the map, even with custom colors, the pattern disrupts lines badly. I would suggest a more subtle off-white background looking like worn paper from a map, preferably with no lines however.

I would also love to see an upgrade system done. I have my own weird idea of finding secret demonic messenger pigeons holding blueprint cases that you send off through the warp with the use button to HQ, after which they grant you upgrades in the next map, but that's just my brain being weird off the cuff, pay no mind.

I can actually attest that the black screen issue was also a thing when I was fooling around with Walpurgis earlier this year. It's definitely just GZDoom doing a thing as far as I can tell. Opening the console usually fixed it.

Almost forgot sharing the showcase I had recorded. This might just be the best entry in the series yet!

Okay. Everything around WW1 is so mysterious and intriguing that I wouldn't be surprised if the was some really dark forces behind it. Then I played and recorded this combo with Nightmare Logic IV:

This one is hecka different than numero 3 of the series. I get exactly what you were going for after playing the hades out of it. I disliked it at first but the fun value was totally there since the dynamic was fun. It was very odd playing something that I didnt necessarily enjoy but had a blast nonetheless. Did I experience the pain of ash in the mouth but the tenacity to keep pushing onward? No clue but definitely an odd achievement and I cannot emphasize enough that it was very fun.

Edit-- The CRUSHER or any map that requires a normal vanilla doom jump is practically impossible to beat, aka Map06 of doom 2.
I've had that same problem when effing with Move speed. I had to counter it with gravity changes. One tactic I did that allowed for desired move speed+ gravity sissues was screwing around with the player Friction stat and balancing that with the Player Move Speed. My tactic was caveman-trial and error tactics to get my desired results on my player changing mods.

Either way, that move speed balancing can be a game breaker, and I didnt see a command for like a sprint ability or something.

I'm glad you enjoyed the mod!

You can run sprint by holding the Shift key, or whatever key you assigned your run. I actually received feedback of people saying the character was too fast, so i don't know what to change him for =V
