[WiP] Digital Weapon Mod v1.1

Digital Weapon Mod is a mod focused on large quantity of weapons to choose from. Ranging from basic pistols over to the powerful E20 Plasma Cannon. Loosely inspired by Digimon, although no Digimon related weapons so far yet. The player assume the role of the digital fox called Renamon, There is as of time of this writing no special features asides from custom written shop menu system and a permanent money system, so you can gear up with all the weapons and items you want for the next map pack instead of having to grind for money again compared to other mods whose money system is temporary. Allowing the player to play with mods which increases the overall difficulty of monsters via modding because you are able to access every item right from the start as long you have the cash for it.

The weapons are fairly basic in operation and there is not many secondary modes available right now, but almost every weapon where it makes sense features a ADS system allowing for long range combat. The weapons hit hard and are fairly accurate, instead of 2D sprites it will be 3D models made in Blender utilizing the MD3 model format.

I am only a amateur developer, so my work quality is not that good compared to other modders and artist of the doom community, so please bear me with that. I suffer also from mental health related issues which hinders my ability to work harder on this mod, so I am not able to provide a release schedule to keep this mod fresh, as I need a lot of energy in order to continue making progress. My goal with this mod is to provide at least a minimum of 50 weapons to chose from and more utility and other items to help the player against the eternal quest to conquer the demons of hell. Asides from the 50 weapons I also intend to provide a full arsenal of other weapons from games such as Unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer Renegade and some others too in this mod, which means this mod will be kind of a kitchen sink style of development. I made all the models from scratch via Blender which takes some time to make them, I don't rip off anything via ripping tools. So that means you may notice some inaccuracies with the copied weapons since I am eyeballing the models.

I have other features planned too for this mod but it will take some time for me to make them because I need to learn more about GZDoom ZScript language, I am only a beginner programmer not a fully experienced one so I cannot add complex features. Sounds and Textures are from other sources, There is a credits text file inside the mod archive in case anyone wants to know where I got the resources off from.

-Shop System
-27 Guns to choose from (Git version)
-Permanent money
-Compatible with mods that don't replace items or weapons.
-Monsters burn and become black when hit by hot weapons (i.e Plasma or Incendiary weapons)
-Blood FPS styled hand grenade mechanic

Hey there. AWESOME!! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME MOD!
One or 2 weapons are a little janky with their animation. But other than that this is absolutely fantastic.

Thanks, I spend several months on this mod and thank you again for making a video of my mod. As for the animation yeah I will see if I can rework it, I am not that good at doing animations so I still need to practice it.

I decide to release earlier then intended because developing new content takes too long. So this release won't have all the new stuff as I wanted to do because I didn't made them yet.

Once I am less busy with my other projects I will continue working on this weapon mod, however I still need quite some time to learn more about the texturing process at least and some few other things I can't think of right now. Then I will reboot this project and hopefully I can provide this time a better looking mod, so that means I will redo a lot of assets and create new ones with self made textures and more animation adjustments. I can't give sadly any ETA how long it will for me take before I can start working on it. The texture style will be stylized in low resolution, I will also get rid of other models that have a lot of polygons and replace them with low polygon models instead.

Thanks for the compliment, I spend a lot of time working on this mod. I hope when I release the redigitized edition that it will be just as good.

For some reason, something in this really got me hooked, albeit it feels ankward to navigate through the menus frequently to restock ammo (having the reload bind act as a "buy up to 100%" option would help). Also, I see no point of the Plasma Cannon in the current state, much worse ammo efficiency than the SMAW, and it costs a gigantic amount of points to begin with.

Okay. I published my first video with Digital Weapon Mod. I really liked the shop gimmick and how the weapons feel good to use, despite needing to open a shop in a beginning of a level where you start in front of a lot of monsters might make things tricky:

I coded the shop menu myself which took me a good while to make it less janky code wise then my previous code, so sorry about that when the menu doesn't feel right to use. As for the weapon balance I am still trying to rebalance the weapons more. It is for me tricky to balance things for ammo and weapon cost since in my playthrough I had no problem hoarding a lot of money. I have no idea if I refactor the shop menu code to utilize the ZGUI library or however it is named will make it less awkward to use.

Thanks you and the others here for making a video of my mod, I should get around updating the OP and linking your videos here then. I am not the best at creating things but I spend a lot of time on the code side and totally not stealing sound effects to make the weapons feel good to use. As for needing to open the shop at the beginning when there is a lot of monsters there is currently a workaround where the shop menu is still interactable despite the game being paused, I need to see if I can somehow freeze stuff when the shop menu is opened so that you don't have to press the pause menu anymore.


So right now I have a different plan, I talked with my friend before and he mentioned doing a remaster of my mod is not worth it right now so instead I aim for a 2.0 release which is going to take a long time since I have lot of assets to redo and then doing code clean up and seeing if I can make the mod more user friendly for both PC players and Android players. I didn't made much progress right now because I was busy with real life stuff but I can work on it now. So that means the models and textures will be redone less of a grug style and more of simple stylized texture, the animations will be also completely redone. I cannot give any estimated time for it right now.

Someone also mentioned I should add Digimon themed weapons before, I would gladly do it but the problem is nobody is willing to make 2D concept sketches for me so I am left on my own learning to do 2D sketches and then making 3D models. Once I am much better for it I think I may be able to make weapons that resembles Digimon designs. I guess it has to happen for the future update of this mod.

So to recap of upcoming features for the 2.0 release:
-Redone all of the weapon models, textures and animation
-New Mugshots
-ZGUI based Shop System
-3D player models
-Special abilities for classes

The reason I am going for a 2.0 release instead of 1.2 because I really want to fix the asset inconsistency instead of having a mixed bag of style of the models. Thanks to everyone who played my mod and even made a recording of it, I appreciate it.
