Exoplanetary Pitstop [RELEASE]

Post by catoidi »

This is a very short little game about building pipes and refueling your spaceship on some distant planet.

>>> FEATURES:
  • drill
  • oxygen
  • pipe building mechanics
  • pink liquid
  • a double jump and an air dash
  • 3 different songs from Forever Home (Bandcamp) (Soundcloud)
>>> SCREENSHOTS:
Spoiler:
>>> DOWNLOAD:
https://catoidi.itch.io/exoplanetary-pitstop
just extract the .zip and run the .exe to play.

made in under 4 days for the GMTK 2024 Game Jam.

this makes use of static lightmaps, so VKDoom is currently required for full compatibility.
(included in itch.io download)

most of the code and assets are from me.
Forever Home also made a couple sound effects.

code is licensed under GPLv3.

Lags on Ryzen 3 Pro 3200ge. Switch to 3400ge. Still lags (22-20 fps if see ship in the start).
Gameplay looks interesting.

No chance running it with gzdoom I guess? Maybe with a patch?

A lot of standalone games use their own modified forks of GZDoom meant to run just their game. Some of them also need bespoke features GZDoom can't or won't implement. Unless Delta Touch maintains compatibility with these ports (and it's unreasonable to ask them to maintain every single engine fork IMHO), Delta Touch isn't the primary target.

Plus a lot of these games are intended to be standalone and not a mod on top of Doom or Doom II or whatnot, so certain mods will probably break the game.

The game can run on GZDoom, however the lighting effects do not appear properly as the game depends on the use of VKDoom's static lightmaps feature.

From my testing, it appears that the static lightmaps are the main cause of the performance degradation.

After the game jam is over, I can upload a version of the game for GZDoom that should have considerably better performance.
