[GZDOOM] BREAK// POINT// - PUBLIC BETA

Post by Guardsoul »

Crossposting from DW: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/1 ... blic-beta/

Welcome to Break Point, a 9-map Doom II UDMF episode featuring colorful 3D environments from some of the best and brightest of modern GZDoom mappers.
This idea for this set was originally conjured up as an experiment for myself to see if I could stop mapping with marble for a minute and make a techbase. Along the way, I picked up jazzmaster9, Guardsoul, Remmirath, and Velvetic, and we came together to make an episode that I hope will please players of a wide range of play styles and tastes.

IDGAMES FILE: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/level ... breakpoint
BACKUP: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jl64JE ... sp=sharing
Spoiler:
TECHNICAL STUFF:
  • Please use GZDoom 4.8 series for this- newer/older versions are untested and may crash or have unintended side effects.
  • Supercharge 2.9 is included in this PK3. Loading other mods on top may have unintended side effects or crashes.
  • Maps are tested both in continuous and pistol start. Supercharge has a pistol start feature you can use for ease of pistol-starting each map.
  • Please play in Vulkan mode, or hardware mode if your hardware does not support Vulkan. You may need a beefier computer to play this as maps take full advantage of current GZDoom/UDMF options.
  • Please have dynamic lights and brightmaps enabled for best visual effects.

SPECIAL THANKS:
  • To my fellow mappers! This would have been a lesser quality project without your expertise and guidance. Big thanks to Remmirath who did much of the graphical gussying-up.
  • To my playtesters: Bridgeburner56, Insane_Gazebo, ginc, ProverbialGamer, Ennello, Pegleg, Biodegradable, notTyrone, Numnzel, and if I forgot you I apologize!
  • To Jimmy for his bespoke track for the secret map.
  • To ukiro for OTEX.
  • To Tango for Supercharge. It is my favorite mod to work with and has enhanced gameplay experience tremendously for this set.
  • To anyone and everyone who plays this set, leaves feedback, etc.

Why so few views/comments? This mapset is killer and thoroughly deserves more fanfare.

Was extremely fun to work on this track for it, too:

I definitely did have fun with this one. I also decided to play around with OBS to get a feel for recording videos with it, so here's a run-through I did of Map01:

Played with the LiveReverb mod (also using a Git build of OpenAL Soft, which has smoother reverb transitions).

Hi friends, and happy New Year!

To celebrate, have Release Candidate 2 (same link in OP, just need to re-download).

Main Changes:

-some texture fixes
-some combat restructuring in some areas
-removed AR -> chaingun in the Supercharge options

Huge thanks again for the feedback!! The team has been working super hard and we're glad you've been enjoying it!

Howdy! Just wanted to pop in and say how much I enjoyed this mapset! The variety of locations was stellar, and the maps looked and played great. I never had any trouble navigating the maps, which I'm forever grateful for. I think MAP05 is my favorite! This was my first experience playing something with the Supercharge weapon set, but I'm glad its included, as the weapons feel great to use. This one is definitely a mapset I'll be returning to in the future.

Overall I think the use of 3D models was fantastic; I think they put to great use in this mapset! My singular gripe is with the hanging meat gore, as I felt the shininess was just a bit off-style. I do appreciate the experimentation though, and it's not a deal breaker at all. I look forward to more maps like these. :D

Can we have a version that allows mods? Dont get me wrong, these maps look amazing and are a blast to play with Supercharge! At the same time I cant help thinking that I'm not the only one who wants to be able to play them with other stuff too.

I.E. Guncaster, Russian Overkill, Hellrider, IR2, Project Malice Monsters, ETC.
