Spooktober Community Mapping Project [1.0.6]

Now that October has begun, I think it's time to finally start up this project I've been talking about a couple times in the past.

Some important notes:
  • The project shall contain a total of 13+5 maps, plus a hub for moving between them.
  • The 13th map will be a "final boss" of sorts, locked until all other maps are completed, the other 5 maps are secret maps scattered throughout the hub.
  • The overall theme is spooky, scary horror stuff, or anything that'd fit the halloween season.
  • The use of jumpscares is discouraged, though not outright forbidden.
  • Custom resources, including monsters and items, are allowed. Any supported music format is allowed.
  • Maps must be in UDMF format, this is mainly to make it easier for me to clean up unused resources later on.
  • All maps are to be played from "pistol start" (or whatever starting items the mapper chooses).
  • The deadline is October 30th, the day before Halloween. This may change if some mappers still need some time to finish their work.
I would love to see what great things the people here can pull off.

I'm really tempted, I love making halloween stuff. I'll let you know later if i'm in.
Can the maps be in UDMF? Are there restrictions about the music choice (ex only midi) or you can have any kind of format?

Speaking of restrictions and other rules. One thing I'd prefer to get out of the way early on is, are co-op starts mandatory? Can I make something that's purely singleplayer centric?

The maps must be UDMF. I should actually add that to the rules.

Coop isn't mandatory. Spook stuff is best experienced alone, after all. Music can be in any supported format as long as it's not something that will get us in big trouble due to copyright.

Eh, I can just put them all in order, they will be rearranged later.

Edit: Little tease of what I'm going with for the hub map's style. I'll be making use of some Thief textures for this.


Might need to do something about the scale of things.

Hey this sounds great. I originally made this map for another ZDoom project called the 65PrBooming 3dges which was abandoned and never compiled into a set.

I love how the map turned out and feel that it will fit in well with this projects theme. Hopefully people enjoy playing it as much as
I enjoyed making it.

I might give a shot at this, but if I won't be able to make it, I'll release it as its own thing.
EDIT: Right now, I have on mind a title "Mansion Of Despair" for my map. It will be somewhat basic, just a standard mansion with graphics from Blood and maybe some other games.

I've started a level that might suit this. It's not much yet but it begins with a creepy concept. Can I take a spot in case the rest of it turns out good? :mrgreen:

Slots filled. I'm still going with the hub map. Once I have something workable I'll upload it along with the resources used.
