Deformed Doom - deform any Doom map!
Hello everyone!
Deformed Doom is a mod that lets you deform any Doom map.
The mod adds an options menu where you can change HOW the map gets deformed.
With this mod you can give your favourite maps a new look and make them "feel" different.
Some examples can be seen in the video!
DOWNLOAD:
https://twitter.com/SunbeamX11/status/1 ... 21414?s=20
Video:
Have fun with it!
I'm looking forward to seeing some cool images.
Requires GZDoom 4.3 or newer.
NOTE:
The mod deforms a map only ONCE per map start. The motion effect in the video was only used to show many different possibilities.
Also: If maps stay deformed even after removing the mod, please "clear your node cache". More info here and here.

God job! As a standalong add-on mod it might be more of a novelty, but in the hands of a talented mapper it can give amazing effects to map like dream sequences, hallucinogenic influences, mental illness simulation, and similar.

Can you deform specific sectors only? Like make one move alone like a moving platform or a floor caving out?

This is a pretty amazing effect! Seeing it in action, I'm also wondering if ZScript would allow for Duke 3D style moving sectors.

Now just imagine people speedrunning doom with this mod.
Also can you actually also stretch textures and the map vertically?

Thanks for your nice comments!
Just in case it wasn't clear: The mod only changes the map ONCE per map start. The "moving" deformation in the video was only to show different possible settings. I'm sorry if this caused confusion.
Not in this mod, but technically I think it is possible.blackfish wrote:Can you deform specific sectors only? Like make one move alone like a moving platform or a floor caving out?
Again technically possible, but not implemented here. I chose not to do this because this would result in the player not being able to move on too many maps (step height).Captain J wrote:Also can you actually also stretch textures and the map vertically?

Oh I am SO gonna use this on OBLIGE maps too!
Can you add a "randomize parameters for each map" setting?

Good idea. However with some maps you need to test some settings before playing, because not all settings work on all maps. So randomness might be a bit hit or miss.Spaceman333 wrote:Can you add a "randomize parameters for each map" setting?

Finally I can stop taking LSD to play Doom the way I want.

If the most dangerous values that cause the most potential map breaking were to be capped for randomization, it would make it safe I think.Sunbeam wrote:Good idea. Interesting mod, but even more than that a really good video. I like your voice.

Re: Deformed Doom - deform any Doom map!
That moving deformation is very demoscene like and could also be great dramatic scripted sequences.Caligari87 wrote:Sunbeam wrote:Just in case it wasn't clear: The mod only changes the map ONCE per map start. If it only changes the map once per map start, it still has quite a use, especially to alter levels quite dramatically in dream-like sequences.
I wonder if its possible to do both, so a toggle for a per map start single change, and areas where ''real-time'' deformation is achieved.
Essentially what is seen here is the scrollable Boom wall, but applied on the whole level.
PS: I saw this thread just when it was posted, but somehow didn't had any initial reaction to it. Now having seen the video, this opens up a lot of interesting ways.
Can this also be done at the source level?
